Biker in need of help, Dublin.

Someone whould tell "Discover Ireland" to add a "kip"" tab to their webpage for Dublin city.

That's a tad harsh isn't it? :nenau
Dublin is a capital city! I'm sure bikes get stolen in every capital city.
Instead of being so negative about Dublin and trying to stop bikers coming to Ireland we should be reminding them that it's a capital city and that it would be wise to lock their bikes and not to leave anything on it! :thumb

Agreed. Opportunity knocked for the scum because of the lack of a good lock. Most countries capitals would be no different.

Sure because of this rohan now has an exciting tail to tell and has meet more Irish bikers then maybe he would have otherwise. He will also have made good bonds as a result and thanks to this forum and others he has felt the warmth of an Irish welcome and hopefully will be on the road again thanks to the generosity of those bikers. Everything as they say happens for a reason. Some day that reason will become clear to Rohan (maybe).

Fairplay by the way to everyone involved yesterday.

It was a great day.

Its not being harsh. And I'm aware its a "capital" city, thanks for pointing that out. & where did I tell ppl not to visit

I get your sentiment but its the second time (that we know of) a "tourist" biker has been robbed of everything they've had with them. They should be warned when visiting Dublin city centre. Maybe even intervention by a passing Garda giving them a heads up if they see foreign bikers cruising looking for digs etc.

Hoteliers / b&b owners should be savy enough to warn bikers to lock it up and stick it out of site when in the city.

The two instances that we're aware of (this guy & the American guy) are almost within 12 months of each other & both went global via the web. Im sure my take wont have too much an impact for folks visiting Dublin. The two events have shown how vulnerable and thow much of a desireable target bike travellers are for theft when visiting the city.

Okay so where would the folks from the area say it would NOT be safe to leave a motorcycle in Dublin

Is it the whole city are there only specific areas targeted??

Here's a map Sketch some lines on it and i'll go over to The Hubb and get it posted up as a heads up and tell them to lock up the bikes securely and to remove their gear ??

I wouldn't leave a bike unlocked anywhere in Dublin city.

If I park in the centre I lock the Bike to an electric pole with my almax.

Finglas, Ballymun, blanchardstown, tallaght, clondalkin, ballymun, swords and the inner city centre. All lock locations. Best out of site then on street.

Or Drogheda, Galway, Waterford, etc. Pretty much any decent sized town or city come to that.

As do I, but let's be honest, a Series III or IV is not what you'd call portable. I keep one in work, one at home for that very reason.

Fact is any bike can get nicked anywhere even if parking in some localities is not what you'd call a good idea.

So,
where's the screen shots, the car pics, the anger and fury, the bans and the bollox?! :green gri

Ban expires at 19.26 this evening. I'll tell them a few home truths then !

You could. I wouldn't... but you could. They've heard - and deleted - it all before. It is what it is, a popular and generally populist forum. The signal to noise ratio is not great but y'know it has it's users, abusers and losers.

As some fella from Liverpool once said, let it be. The Internet's a big place after all :beerjug:

We were planning first bike trip to Eire via Dublin next May-think we might go somewhere safer-like the rest of Europe !!!

Arsey, don't be put off coming over because a few bikes have been nicked. Dublin is a city like all big cities, crime is a fact of life.
Stay out of the cities and see the countryside, it's well worth it.

Or stay in the suburbs.

Like anywhere you need to exercise a bit of caution when you park a motorcycle in a city. Both the instances I know about were parked on the street as the guys were staying in hostels. Most of the hotels would have carparks, some underground & some adjacent. I rarely park the bike in Dublin but lots of people do every day. I've never had an issue parking anywhere on this island.
Don't let this put you off coming over & having the craic :beer jug:

Hi Guys,

I posted this in the Beakchat section, but I thought i'd add an update to my situation here as well.

I still haven't received any confirmed sightings of my bike that was taken last month, and sadly there isn't too much hope to hold for it now. Nonetheless, I have purchased an older XR650l to complete my trip back to Australia. It does need a bit of work to get it ready for travelling long distances, but that shouldn't take too much longer to complete. Also, the rest of my gear is still being organised, but there isn't too much left to replace. So, if all goes to plan, I'm expecting to be back on my way early next year.

None of this would have been possible if it weren't for your generosity and support!

Thank you again,
Rohan
