Greetings all.

Just bought my 100gs pd last weekend, after owning a 650 pd and a 1150 Gsa....i fancied owning something that i have half a chance in maintaining and repairing.

Its on about 50,000 miles and a K reg/93 in a rather fetching white/grey pebble dash and turquoise crash bar colour. All in all a rather nice little bike, i think.Thing is, i have some rather big plans for it involving big mileage and overseas travelling....so i need to get it a once over and replace some obviously older parts....but mostly keep it as original.

The parts that do need replacing are all the fuel lines, and i will do the brake lines to be on the safe side....as well as getting new throttle and clutch cables as well.Getting a full service and renewing all the fluids and ( hopefully looking over the mechanics shoulder to watch carb balancing ) and i might have to do something about the rear shock.....possibly need an expert opinion on this, as im more used to new bike's standards of suspension......might be normal for a 100gs pd.

Is there any one person or shop that could meet these needs?

Im living in Basingstoke..Hampshire, but as i have effectively taken a year off now, i can travel anywhere to get the work done if needed.

ooh...one more thing, im thinking about getting a set of pannier racks adapted to fit the bike...they have some very nice in-expensive ones for sale at bykebitz at the moment ( £150 a set ) but dont fit the older bikes....anyone who can do this?

thankyou for your help. Andy

If I was you I would replace the diode board and regulator for a Thunderchild higher output reg/ better heat resistant diodes = should be a fit and forget for 65 quid fron San Diego - Save yer old cables and leave um on yer bike as spares ( they can all break even new uns ) get some heated grips on
( If it aint got um Daytona are OK ) Think about getting a driveshaft or better still get a new un on and save old un. Re- new fuel lines and service pack on carbs
Get on it and bugger off !!!!!! :thumb
can I come when me foots better - the one I put me shoe on :thumb2

You can get new fuel lines easily enough from BMW. You don't need to fit extra fuel filters that ssome do as there is a filter screen above the fuel cocks.
Don't forget to change the fork oil - it's always overlooked, I tend to increase the oil weight just a little, you could also change the fork springs.
I fitted a Melvin front brake line and could definately feel an improvement. Motobins used to sell (sure they still do) an after market clutch cable (featherlight I think), makes a big difference.
Also a set of Bosch platinum spark plugs (Mototbins again) - nice improvement in my experience. I used to find that with balanced carbs, the motors are very smooth.....lovely!
Ohlins seem to be one of the better regarded rear shocks.

Andy,
I'm back on a PD after a few years promiscuity on a GSA - there's lots of things you can do by yourself - I've got a Touratech screen extender which helps - Touratech footpegs - just fitted an Ohlins rear shock (£500 ouch!) really sticks your ass to the grey stuff - braded front brake line is a must - progressive front fork springs are worth it too - heated grips, yes - Zega panniers - loastly I fitted an oil pressure gauge just to make sure the filter shims are working - all seems well with 5 bar pressure
Enjoy - it's a keeper
