Plan to respray Matt Black today but other than a rub down and a soapy wash before I spray is there anything else I should be aware of ?

TIA

Ideally you need to wipe it over with some panel wipe, just to clean out any wax or silicone residue left behind that the soapy water might not have shifted!

Anything else I could use, white spirit or similar ?

Avoid white spirit if you can as it's a spirit rather than a solvent. You could try some brake cleaner but any light weight solvent will work. Just test what you're using first as it may react with the paint already there!

Thank you

Obvious one but check fit and fiddle with that before painting. I just got hold of one and the fit wasn't great (yes despite it being wunderlich). Once your happy with any fiddling ready for nice new paint

This might seem a total foolish question as I haven't got as far as removing the bodywork yet, but I am guessing it's a replacement part and doesn't slide over the existing shroud. I knew it was a stupid question but you gotta ask !!

That looks like the wunderlich part that slides over and is fixed with adhesive pads

Next thing todo is perhaps find a clear hardener to paint over the top as when the side panels are removed and refitted it's a very close fit and I can feel a scratch coming on !! Either that or a tin of humbrel touch up paint handy each time :-)

Overall am pleased with the job especially when noticing a nice ding in the oil cooler !!

For painting always be careful what soaps are used as many leave behind non stick silicones.
Personally I always use a fine grade scotchbrite pad to flat the surface.

Some bloke's done exactly the same on Facebook.......only he made a much better job of it!!! :D

Not to hijack your thread, but the paint has started to flake of my '11 plate RT front brake master cylinder cover (why do they use such crap paint?) :anger

Should I use the same procedure and which paint will stand up to brake fluid (not that any has leaked out!)

Thanks
