Have you tried a warranty claim or maybe a goodwill gesture by your local dealer ?
I had the front engine cover replaced after 2yrs on a GS due to flaking paint.

Spoken to Kirk at Williams and he said to bring it in and they will probably do it under warranty - happy days if this happens - just waiting for an opportunity to get in there

Did you get any joy with Williams ?

Booked it in to have the "warranty team" have a look at the paintowrk on the master cylinder cap and the cruise control as this had just stopped working - great!
They did say that because it was out of warranty, they would probably not cover the costs, hmmmmm!

Took it in and within a couple of hours, they had replaced both left and right switchgear and ordered a new cover for the master cylinder at no cost (the switch gear was a warranty item, but the cover was goodwill).

I am a happy bunny now and realise why we pay a premium for BMW's, but instead of me thinking do I go for a Triumph Trophy or an FJR next, it's more like how much would I get against a WC RT.
