can anybody recomend a few routes in black forest
where is the best place to stay that has a reasonable night life
best places to see as well
then will head over to do the romantic road back up

I've ridden once down through the Black Forest once. The roads are brilliant, but there may well be greater roads nearby. The route we took was vaguely North-South down the eastern side.

A couple of years ago, we rode back from the Alps on the Romantischestrasse. I really couldn't see what the fuss was about, to be honest - maybe some of the towns and villages along the way are lovely, but the road itself wasn't particularly a biking route.

You could ride back through the Vosges Mts in France and Ardennes in Belgium/Luxembourg instead - lovely scenery and roads.

Be aware some roads in the black forest region are closed on weekends to bikes due to tits using them as private race tracks and the resulting crashes and deaths

The roads around Tittisee (good place to stay)are fantastic, was there last year. We had a map showing the recommended biker roads but to be honest, just turn left or right and follow your nose, they're all twisty, scenic and enjoyable.:beerjug:

HHmm that would be the road with long fast corners and straights with the 70km/h speed limit, and where all the copper's hang out on weekends picking off all the 100's of crotch rockets..... how about pick any other road than the B500 and you'll be onto a winner

Round trip of Black Forest, the Swiss and Italian Alps via 13 passes

This was an unplanned spur of the moment ride out lasting 10 days on our just brought second hand 2001 R1150GS. We found two really excellent places to stay in france and the Black forest.

Calais to Nancy (Hotel)
Nancy via the black forest and the 500 to Titisee (Hotel)
Titisee to Bad Ragaz (Hotel)
Evening ride out to Davos
Over Fluelapass to Susch
Right to Bever just past Zuoz
Right again over Albulapass to Tiefencastel
Right again over Lenzerlede pass to Chur
And back to Bad Bad Ragaz.
Bad Ragaz over Fluelapass again to Susch right again to Zernez
Left over Ofenpass dal Furon to St Maria
Right to Western side Passo dello Stelvio (some of this pass is very passable unmade road)
Right down the Stelvio pass To Bormio
Right Over Passo d Foscagno to Livigno
Left over Passo del Bernina to Tirano
Right to Tresenda
left over passo dell Aprica to Edolo
Right to Lovere on Lake Ieso (Hotel by lake for two days)
Lovere to Clusone
Left to Ponte Nossa
Right to St Pellegrino
Right again via Pizza Brembana and Mezzaldo over Passo St marco to Moregano.
Left to piantedo
Right via Chiavenna and Val Giacomo over Spuggen pass to Spuggen
Left over Passo st berardino ( Top Gear best ever pass only because its wide enough for a car !!) to Biasca (not on the Motor way)
Biasca to St Gotthard Pass (again off the motor way) (Hotel stop over night to set off over pass in morning)
St Gotthard via old cobble stone pass to Hospental
Left over Furkapass to Gletsh
right to Mejringen
Mejringen via Luzern and Baden to Titisee
Titisee to Seebach via the 500
Three nights at Dave and Wendy,s (www.pension-williams.de again excellent)to explore the Black forest.
Seebach to Dun sur Meuse (Ian and Carol's place www.bikersbedsfrance.co.uk excellent)
Dun sur Meuse to calais via some quaint back roads and A26 care of Ian.

Found the Getting to and from bottom of Germany into Alps Via the Basel, Zurich Luzen triangle very uninteresting and full motor ways. Need to find a better route???
George!
