Black particles on top of swinging arm r1100 gs

I know what you mean but I can’t replicate it whilst standing
I think it only does it under load
I’d put new gaskets on the headers but the bolts scare me 😂
So you know about that problem; :D

I may be a case of... Does it go OK... Is there oil in the engine... Is everything still attached... Would you be desolee if it went bang somewhere down the line... Etc etc...

Trying to make the perfect and quiet oilheads engine is a holy grail thing... All my oilheads which Now number 6ish have buzzed and rattled in different ways and perhaps the best condition and youngest I had, rattled from the front case as the camchain tensioner lost pressure when hot... I rode on... I even spotted it on eBay many years later with twice the mileage I sold it with and I put on 35k...
If you can't easily find it and it is still running OK... AND you can't get to one of the many v experienced oilheads for a 2nd opinion I'd probably crack on...😉 Oh and don't but an older Ducati...🤣

It rides stunning
Brakes handles an absolute pleasure to ride and live with
Time for ear plugs

As I’ve found out on here
There are many people on here who are vastly experienced with oilheads
I live in the midlands
I would love to encounter one of these sages
Of the oil head world to give my bike a once over
Remuneration isn’t a issue nor is distance within reason

That’s very silly

The Mrs always has a listen if i think i can hear summat; cam chain ; tappets and other engine noises i think i can hear; she can pin point things accurately something i struggle to do.

Does that back up my theory that only blokes have selective hearing?…….

I’ve tried using earplugs but just can’t get on with them. I’ve tried numerous makes and softnesses too. They all hurt after about an hour. Nope. Don’t use anything nowadays and it’s not affected my hearing at all.

I tried many years ago
Couldn’t get on
Wear nothing now
Has it affected my hearing
Probably but not as much as the wife

Beware on longer runs... I didn't use them as a courier and then had other bike related jobs... Couple of louder bikes but mainly wind noise at speed for longer distances... Loud bands when young won't have helped but I used them most times now and have some hearing damage, bit of tinnitus, can't do multiple noises at once etc...

WInd noise affects everyone's hearing and it's always negatively. I ride every day, been using bikes as work transport for many years and now I have tinnitus same as many who thought their hearing was 'not affected'. I still pass all my hearing tests that are required for work but the tinnitus is always there.

Must have been 20 years ago or more I took a hearing test and the tester said "you ride a motorbike, and so do your two workmates" (there were three of us there for hearing tests). I said "yes, how do you know?" and he replied "I can always tell, your hearing is all reduced on the same frequency ranges". It was a wake-up for me and I have always worn plugs since in fact I can't bear to ride without them. Can't fix the tinnitus that damage was already done I just don't want it getting any worse.

Very good post and same as me...👍 Any run over a handful of miles and not at town speed it's always earplugs .. I use softer disposables bought by the box... Makes you riding so much more relaxed as well... When I had sports bikes in the 90's it added 20mph to my speed as well without all the drama...😆👍
