There have been a pair of Yellow (similar but to, not quite like motorway average speed) cameras over the entrance to the tunnel going northbound. A couple of days ago, a similar pair appeared at the exits. Big signs up saying 'camera trial, no enforcement'. Not sure what is going on here. If they were speed cameras, a pair at the exit to the tunnel would suffice (saving the need for the second pair covering the exit off). Are they Lane control cameras? (or is this me just living in hope) One thing for sure, they aint going to be checking for insurance /registration etc. Traffic cop in south london told me that if he actually prosecuted everyone they stopped without insurance that the 'system' would grind to a halt within 48 hours. They were working on a basis of 20% unregistered uninsured etc as a sustainable point.

Well my friend,
Let me explain about these cameras. They do everything. Starting with your time of entrance, and time of exit in and out of the tunnel, and they are linked wireless to a computer which prints fines. Speed fines , insurance and number plate recognition, etc.,etc.

Can they also take the money straight out of your bank account - to save you time? :D

WOW. They must be the business. But how can they do any of this if:
1) They face me and my numberplate is at the rear?
2) I have not registered my vehicle?
3) I have no insurance?

Cant see them being much fecking use in the Blackwall tunnel where they had to give up the tidal flow due to dangerous driving, dangerous driving they couldnt stop despite it being caught simultaneously on CCTV and home videos (now widely viewed on You Tube).

But hey, it would be nice if they could. The tunnel closure made national headlines when it was the unlicensed asbestos wot fell off the back of an unlicensed van and exploded, and the ensuing gridlock meant even my boss (based in Cardiff) had sympathy for my late arrival. What doesnt make the national news is that the tunnel is regularly blocked off. And the ensuing gridlock is the norm, once a month.

Did anyone read bike magazine last year - outside my office in Stratford? I'll find it and post it. Anyone anti enforcement should live in a place where no one has licences, insurance, mots, tax etc.

In the meantime, if anyone knows what these cameras really measure, it would give me a head start in knowing what the cars are going to do once the no enforcement signs have gone.

Thanks
