Blisters on hand after riding??

Hi all

Sorry, didn't know where to post this but it may be 1250 related...

After a long(ish) ride on Sunday with Mrs O, I started to get uncomfortable palm on my right hand. When I got home, I discovered that I had 5 blisters all across my palm, right in the area where the throttle sits, which have now ballooned up.

Has anyone else had this? I presumed my gloves were rubbing the area, but my good lady wife has suggested that they may be burn blisters from the heated grips being too high? I had my heated grips set to 4, my gloves are not leather but have a suede type material on the palm.

As you can imagine, explaining many blisters on the palm of my hand has been interesting this week

I imagine your wife is right....heated grips being the cause.

If you have a 1250 or any BMW with standard grips that get hot enough to cause burns (when you are wearing gloves) then it is very unusual . I would be blaming gloves as I had a similar issue with a pair of Richa's in the Summer which were new and got slightly damp

not had blisters but on my BMWs I fitted Grip Puppies as increasing the diameter of the grips meant a more relaxed grip.

I rarely used my grips on anything above the first level on the R1200RS as the higher settings were too hot.

are your gloves bunching in the area? i would be very surprised if the grips could burn your hands.

That's my thoughts. Combined with the heated grips

Hold up here, are we suggesting the heated grips will burn without the rider actually being aware of it? This is fascinating.

Photo of the blisters for reference. I’ve worn these gloves for about 8 months with no previous issues. I remember the heated grips being quite hot but not uncomfortable.

My grips gave me a blister when I had my heated gloves on. 100% it's heat blisters.

0= Off

. = Hot

.. = Defcon 1 They melt anything in the vicinity

So you get your fingers burned when you buy the bike then your palms burned when you ride it ?

I have had the same thing after a 20 hour ride, just not as bad. Right hand, heated grips on being rotated between full and off during the overnight part of the ride.

Odd to only have the right hand affected . It could be on odd form of dermatitis pomphylix can present like this. You are not diabetic are you ? That can cause neuropathy so your hands become less sensitive to heat \ pain .Worth maybe a few base line blood tests including an Hba1C . Odd cheers

My wife burned her bum on a cold day on an RT. Not from the handle bars obviously... A bad burn, never felt it until she got off after about two hours. Couldn't sit down for days.

No Diabetic no but I am a Chef by trade so I do have a high tolerance to heat on the hands, worth a thought. I do also remember going through a heavy shower half way through the day, I know from experience that wet towels on hot trays etc can magnify the heat so that could have been a factor if my gloves were wet

Heated grips burning through gloves?
Surely not possible because (i) we are all rufty-tufty adventure bikers (ii) even the hottest grips don't get hot enough to do that?
Our normal reaction is to immediately pull away from any surface that is 60C or hotter.
