Second set of rear pads I've put on the bike, 47 thousand ish miles.:DMind you, the first set lasted 30K , this set only lasted 17K, perhaps it's time I bought a new retaining pin.

Read this and weep 1200 owners.:P

yeah, sure you're right, those lardy 1150 Adventures, I've got a GS. I've read posts from 1200 owners with very short rear pad life, like 5000 miles.

I always clean the caliper once a year, even when new pads aren't needed.

remove the metal clips, copper grease these and the pins, use red rubber grease around the interface of piston to caliper body. Clean the sliding pins, and put new red rubber grease on them.

Bugger!!!! " break", you illiterate bastid ELIMINATOR! BRAKE!

Dude if you pump the pistons out halfway (with ignition off if you have servo ABS) can you then push the pistons in with your thumbs?

If not they are jamming out poabably due to :- the outer seal is a wiper ring and for some reason the salty water gets in behind them and the salt then crystallizes out and pushes the seal out which has no where to go so it compresses and increases resistance on the pistons which generates more heat to help the salt crystallize out faster next run out

So quite probably if you're not taking the piston out and cleaining in behind your ring then the piston is not retracting hence accelerated wear! and Probably you're heating your brake fluid too:eek:
