I did weld up the dash support to fix that rattle but the other one has been getting worse.
Yesterday I rode the bike with a touch of front brake and the rattle had gone.
This started me researching this problem and read every link on this site.
Today I ordered from the stealer 10 wave washers to see if they will solve the problem. They arrive tomorrow.
What I couldnt find was dimensions of the parts. My bike is a late 2000 with 136000kms so I am assuming the discs have been changed. The bobbins are stainless steel and again I don t know if this correct.
Dimensions of the parts on my bike
The disc at the mountings is 5.07mm thick and the width of the hole is 13.80mm.
The bobbin diameter is 13.56mm and depth from under the tophat section is 6.15mm.
Anyone know if these are correct.

As far as I'm aware nothing changed on the front wheel in terms of discs or mounting hardware at any point with the 1150GS.

I had an issue when I fitted new discs where there was too much movement which created a lot of noise. Even after replacing all of the hardware it hadn't been cured. In the end I bodged a bit of a fix with some electrical tape around the bobbins to limit the movement and it's now cured.

easy fix no fcuking about just get 5 per side of 34117670217 Stop Disc

They are about a 1 mm thick penny washer in stainless steel they stop the disc wearing the hub

they don't need to be super strong as they merely guide the disc to be true

Simply clean the bit that is still proud but not aggressively!!!

Do Not file it as you end up with the One leg shorter than the rest chair syndrome

Before anyone chirps up and starts spouting Nonsense as "Why not to do this?"

they are a BMW part number!
It works!
There are no adverse effects unless you are a twat and file the posts!

Pads will self centre in the calliper unless the pistons are seized and you can sort that while all the other bits are off!
You do not need to adjust or modify the callipers!

Yes I am fecking grumpy this morning So get on with it!

Have a Nice Day!

Supergluing the bobbin to the tyre should stop it squeaking :D

Wrap PTFE tape around the bobbins. Its heat resistant, self lubricating and soft enough to move when the disc expands.

Edit: Good call on the alloy wearing. My local supplier has M8 penny washers at about 1mm thick. They are generally too thin to be much good for normal use, but could be perfect for something like this. www.pughandsanders.co.uk

Use plenty of antiseize between washer and wheel to avoid electrolytic corrosion into the alloy.

You could consider a good dollop of threadlock between washer and wheel. Ive never tried it as a sealant but it could work. The excess exposed to air wont cure so it should clean off when it's done.

Bendy get away back to the 1200 section! :comfort I am sure the wee men will be along shortly with the white coats and teh big butterfly net!!

Answer lightly sand the exposed area and apply some paint! Smooth Hammerite silver is quite a good match!

I wouldn't use grease! Paint first and if you don't have any? A wee smear of RTV sealant just around the outside edge of the brake disc pillar!

In fact don't sand just clean with a wee taste of thinners on a cloth and paint the stuff on!
Once painted its sealed and behind the stop disc.
So probably better not to sand, rather than someone getting into the One leg shorter syndrome!

hi,if discs run on knackered bobbins for a long enough period the mounting holes go slightly oval.makes no difference if you fit replacement stuff, seen it on bikes of much less Ks Cheers

Done the very same mod on mine farkoff, worked a fuckin treat. Top job

I have no step on the disc mounts but I do understand what you mean by using the washers.
The bobbins and discs have no obvious signs of wear.
I am about to order some washers and instrument light unit from Motorworks and have the bobbins 'hopefully' turning up tomorrow.
I also have a role of PTFE tape for to pack out the bobbins.
Give anything ago to sort out the rattle which is worse when I get the earplugs fitted properly:D

Number one done use the PTFE until you are sure there is no other route

Just a question is you calliper like this ?? (obviously without the machined bits)

I had a K1200RS that rattled badly and did the same after changing the wavey washers

Someone had fitted the cheap pads that do not have the little retaining spring on them

Do all your front pads have that little triangular spring around the brake pad pin hole?
