I can't upload pics on my other thread. So here is another attempt. The first one shows the connector open with the male part visible. Second one is the female part showing an O ring I fitted (I'm not even sure if there was an O ring there before). My son who is not as kack handed as me tried to close the connector but like me he couldn't get it to lock. Do we force it closed or should it click ? Does it look broken ? Did it need that O ring ?:confused::confused:

You have a broken Q/D . Part of the male section has broken off and is stuck in the female section . You shouldn't be able to see the white inner plastic part of the male section that can be seen in the picture . It's the outer black plastic part that covers it that's broken off - take a look at the other Q/D and you'll see what it should look like .

Thanks Neil. QD stands for what ? The male/female fitting ? Off to dealer in morning then as bike is going to new owner this week.

QUICK DISCONNECT, they are known to break.
I installed metal ones on mine

Have you gotten the smell of petrol out of the shed yet Luke? Nice handy 5 minute job - not! Thanks for the tea.

On my bike, on the mail Q/D connector ,I put a very thin smear of silicone grease (little tub from plumbers merchant) before reconnecting them. The petrol makes the o-rings very grippy. They slide in smoothly with a satisfying click. The silicone doesn't harm the o-ring.

+1, in an emergency a smear of oil will do the trick.

Robh is right; they're a sod to connect /disconnect if they're not lubed, but a quick smear of red rubber grease is even better and obviously nade for the job. Just replaced all the pipes and QD connectors on my GSA with metal ones after finding a weep on the balance pipe QD where the pipe had perished (ethanol damage??). Excellent service from the fine people at Motobins. Off to see Mikeyboy tomorrow to get the FD seal sorted.

The metal QD's are far superior to the plastic ones. Good tip to grease the o-rings. Mine are a bit sticky and I'll use that trick to correct the situation.

I would have bought metal ones but I had a time limit as the bikes new owner is collecting her tomorrow and heading to the UK.
