bloody RTs

You know thats the first black RT I've ever seen ?

looks good in black :thumb2

never really like the look or image but needed a tourer this year and the R1100RT was the best value and the best fuel consumpition by far (62mpg possible)

picked mine up from Kent last week for £1200, 50,000 miles, all the toys and luggage - even new tyres

Seems to ride ok, took a few miles to get used to but that seems to be the case with most BMWs.

Think its probably a bit tatty under the panels but I guess thats true of all faired bkes.

Not going to get too involved with it, have just changed the oil and filter then might replace the front disc bobbins although it passed mot ok a few months back.

I assume the 1150RT has the high 6th gear which would be nice but I dont want to spend £3500+ on a bike just for distance work.

Look forward to see what its like off road on the Stella :thumb

My old RT 1150.

Bought for £3200 and sold for not much more.

Still kinda regret selling her, fantastic bike.

nice bike:thumb2

That is very nice indeed. I still cannot shake-off my hankering for a good twin-spark RT and black or grey would be my preferred colour.

this is my problem mike i love the 1150s there dont seem to be as much room for the legs on the 12s for me anyway and shapeshifter showing pics like that is not helping:D:D:D:D

i love my GSA to bits i think i might need to spend some time with one to see how i get on with it:augie

Only two good things about an RT the screen and heated seat.:augie didn''''''''t like the 09 i had for 5 weeks on loan from vines

I used to have a 1100RT, cracking bike once I had put a Cee Baileys screen on it, it was faultless for long trips. Couple of times I rode it up to Perth with 'no' aches or pains on arrival. Only sold as I kept on loosing mirrors in London traffic @£70 a pop.

Reckon I would happily have another.

How much do you want for it?

I'm really not sure as I haven't really given it much thought yet. I was going to wait until spring for obvious reasons, this thread just prompted a 'toe in the water' post.
Let me have a think and I'll get back to you

By the by I've had earlier RTs, an LT, a 1200 GS and GSA and my 1200 RT is by far the most accomplished 2 up tourer I've had to date. I'm only really considering letting it go because for a number of reasons my pillion seat isn't going to be needed much over the next couple of years and my commute takes me through the blackwall tunnel and I too daily fear for a loss of mirrors!

I don't have any pics... but I did ride a 2010 RT for a couple hundred miles... and I couldn't wait to give it back!!

Like you, I kept seeing them around and thought it would be great for doing the miles and still pretty good on the a/b roads... with the added benefit of big panniers on both sides, heated grips, easiliy adjustable fairing! But not for me - I just couldn't get on with the handlebars being set back from the top yoke. Fine when just cruising around but when trying to get a move on, I really struggled - including nearly hitting the verge!!

So take one for a ride - it's a kill or cure approach :thumb

How gay are you :D:D:D

RT is faster than a GS, handles better and is more comfortable. They just lack a little grin factor compared to the GS IMHO.

Helps if they are in the right hands though. Maybe you should have tried riding it sitting down rather than standing on the pegs. Tarmac roads may have helped to ;)

I kinda agree here. Most of us if not all of us on here have owned or extensively ridden GS's, nobody needs to tell me just how good they are. As an outright tourer, the RT has the edge. As an all rounder, its the GS without a doubt. I have a couple of other bikes and I'm hankering after a euro touring machine:D I don't know if I'd really want both in my garage if I could afford it, they are too close in many ways and it would be a fekin hard decision which one to have a weekend away on:blast

I dunno. I love my GS and really can't see me selling it until I physically cannot cope with the weight of it all loaded-up but I see it as a long-distance tourer with the ability to explore some of the less well-travelled tracks (while still loaded-up).

I'd like an RT for those trips of shorter duration, ones where the destination and not the route is the point.

Basically, I don't like long motorway (type) travel on the GS but on an RT it would be different (my K75 currently does that for me).

Ideally I want a twin-spark 1150RT because it would make more sense to have two bikes that have the most commonality regarding service parts etc. but I also think that the 1150 looks better than the 1100 and the 1200RT's. The fairing certainly provides better protection than the 1200 (especially in the leg area).

I'll get one, one day.

Been having exactly the same thoughts, sat on one at Chester BMW the other day and it fitted very well .... the RT is taking the place of the Wing which I always promised myself when the GS allure faded ... it hasn't yet :D

...

show me some pics of yours to make it worse

Happy to oblige. I'm a big fan of the RT

2007 went to the Czech MotoGP then South down the beautiful Croatian coast to Montenegro.

i keep seeing them and the bastard things are growing on me:blast

Fantastic Bike. Got this one to slow me down a bit as things were getting silly on the K12s:eek: Doesn't steer too well in the air :augie so I started to get some smaller bikes for that.

Best bike I've ever owned and I've kept it about the longest. No regrets and no plans to sell as I can't see what road tourer I'd replace it with.

Pics are from West & North Scotland

Have to agree, great luggage, does everyting it says on the tin but just a little dull.
Bought one last April did a tour of spain 4000 miles but lacked charisma and attitude, px it in aiugust for a 2010 gsa and never looked back:thumb

RT

hi Chas, I bought a RT off this site, best of both worlds as I kept the GS too:thumb, so for less than the price of a new one, two bikes, so you can take whicever takes your fancy on the day. :) mind you the gs has had a fit of sulks and is refusing to start now!! when the weather perks up you would be welcome to have a try.
