Hiya

My dipped beam hid has packed up when on the way up to cumbria, bit of a bugger when it got dark.

I havent had a chance to look at it yet,but I'm not sure if you can just replace the bulb?:nenau

Anyone had this happen?:nenau

I guess Les might be along in a minute, but it could be your Ballast not the bulb.

If you have the main beam HID as well you should be able to test the bulb by connecting it to the other ballast.

Other than that disconnect the HID bulb from the ballast etc and remove it and put a normal bulb back into the bike just to get you home - the normal bulb of course needs wiring back into the original connector not the ballast.

I had the same thing in Scotland and I was lucky enough to encounter a thunderstorm/cloudburst 30mins after losing my dipped beam - not a good place to be.

Cough

Actually its one of the orginal hids supplied by colebatch:bow,
don't know if there is a goodwill replacement going yet as Walter is in mongolia:thumb2

Slim ballasts? They don't last long for daily use - a year or so on mine. Fitted a normal one for the dimmed and slim for high beam after it blew.

It is Walter and myself who are hid50.com if you want to call in on the way back from the Lakes i will see what i can do, but the hid must be at least 3 years old now, warranty is for 12 months, but can test and find out what is the problem, and sort one out if required :thumb2

I still have a pair of the very first slim 50 ballasts on my bike, trying to blow them to see the life of them but no luck yet :D

Thanks Les

Thanks Les::bow

I was only up there for 1 day Les,wednesday nite-thursday morning, travelled back thursday afternoon.

anyway,I have established it is the ballast ( they are the old thick style) that is gone not the bulb.
yr right in saying that they are quite old, cant remember when I bought them but its easy a couple of years ago. They have been on the bike for at least 30k miles( on 42k now).

I have swapped the dip for the high beam for now and put a standard blub back in the high beam,i will contact you by PM to sort a replacement Les.:clap
