BMW and Mini dealers to offer Shell oils as Castrol loses contract

They must be different model WC's that you've ridden to the example I was supplied with as a demo bike. That one really did have a dire clutch/gearbox. I think we should just agree to differ on this point:D

We will have to then, because the three I have ridden have all been fine, mine plus two loaners while bike was being serviced by the dealer - oh and a mates early 2013, same as mine is OK too. I guess all the unlucky ones gather on forums like this to complain so the 'problem' appears much much larger than it is in reality - I'd really, realy love to ride a 'bad un' to see what they are like, but can't bloody find one!

drive up to Northumberland and you can try mine to see how bad it is, so much so that I rode it home after its first service and put it away in disgust and went back to using my 2011 tc gsa

p.s I know how to ride a bike and change gear, I have been riding bikes since 12 years of age and on the road since the age of 16 and passed my test at 17 in 1980. I have owned 30 plus bikes, used to do outriding for test days for local dealerships, have passed job bike courses and ridden bikes from the 70's right up to modern tackle, owned a r1150gs for 9 years and ridden bmw's from the r75/5 up to the newest stuff k1600, f800 , r1200 r etc plus 3 different lc models and mine has a unacceptable change from neutral to first and even worse from first to second (unless the bike is travelling less than 16mph and at tickover).

I have taken to actually starting it in first with the clutch in to stop it going into first with a bang, as for second it is the only vehicle I have ever ridden or driven( including hgv's, plant and tractors ) , where it will not physically engage second gear from neutral without the fear of damaging the box as most of the time it will not even engage unless you are willing to put a large amount of pressure onto the lever and ignore the non meshing gears and force it in (which I am not)

I nearly always start mine in 1st with the clutch pulled in because I don't like the clunk, but all other changes up and down are fine, it just needs a blip on down changes for the smoothest change. I never go from neutral to 2nd, so comment on that. I'd be happy to ride up to Northumberland as soon as I get a spare weekend.

Don't forget about the other benefit of leaving it in gear when stopped. It stops the other problem with the LC-GS, it won't fall off the side stand.

That's a new one on me?

Its a well known feature of some of wc bikes they roll forwards if the road is not spirit level flat and have a lay down for a sleep sometimes The side stand angle on some is to vertical but it makes cleaning the underside of the engine easier so it a feature not a fault

Is yours one of the ones that it's almost impossible to select neutral with the engine running?

That's wierd I would have thought that they were all the same apart from from minor model year changes - do they vary randomly then?

If they were built as well as the early rear sub frames that will be a categorical yes :D

Yes on some bikes the side stand does not go forward far enough and the bikes have a tendency to roll of their stands its just a build quality (feature) issue with a few bikes its well documented on the owners forums some have fell over just running while parked
