BMW Exclusive Seats

ANYONE !!!! have a link to the english version of this image posted OR the link to the german version of it / german online SHOP. I have looked at UK Motrorrad site and seats not listed there. In Greece and will be going back through Germany.

The link in my previous post (30) is for the seat in an English version of BMW Motorrad.

Hi from Palma de Mallorca!

I had terrible tailbone pain with the OEM seat on my GSA 14.
A few months ago i bought a Touratech (high) for me and a pillion seat as well.
The TT seat has helped no-end with pressure on my tailbone, however it is HARD and still has not broken in after 10,000km of mixed riding. My wife hated the TT and i returned it to the dealer for a refund after just 2 rides. She has obviously been spoiled by the Russell Day Long seat on the Goldwing :moped:

Curiosity got the better of me and i ordered an exclusive comfort seat (high) from Rainbow on ebay UK. It should be here in 14 days or so and i will post my comments.

Great forum & glad to be a part of it.

Regards,

Ellie

I was thinking about getting the TT seats as they were great on my TC GSA especially the rear seat as the shape stopped the doris sliding into me if I broke heavily. They are however expensive and lack of reviews/feedback on them didn't help my desicion plus the fact they're £165 more expensive

So i've took a gamble and ordered these also from Rainbows. I've gone for the low seat to help with the whole 2up thing and getting better footing on the ground.

I will post my feedback when I get a chance to ride (just had hernia op).

My wife is a seasoned (and may I add AWESOME) passenger. Within an hour she told me that the TT seat is a no go. Her thighs were hurting and she could not get comfy no matter how she moved around.
Yes - the hump on the seat helps the passenger not move forward under aggressive braking, but this means nothing if they are constantly moving around looking to get comfortable (even on a very short ride)

So i believe you made the right decision going with the exclusive (passenger-wise).

Here in South Africa these seats are only available as a special order (import on firm pre-paid order only). My dealer could not even pick up the part numbers on their computer system, they had to make contact BMW South Africa first.

Will think about this as the standard seat/s is rather firm and unforgiving. The list of wants just grows and grows with no end in sight. :blast

My Exclusive tall arrived today and after only a 50 mile test ride I don't have a strong opinion yet. First I should say the stock seat on my 14 GSA is not terrible, but after around two hours it has me squirming around to shift the hot spots it gives me and I'm constantly having to push myself back after sliding to the front of the seat. The seat does not really slope forward but to me the foam seems too soft and the front being narrower has less support so it collapses more creating a slope. The warmer the seat gets the more it occurs. Just sitting on the bike cold it's not much of an issue but in hot weather and/or after my rump warms the foam is when it occurs.
Back to the Exclusive seat, it is almost the exact same size as the stocker so no gain there. It also feels just as soft, if not softer or squishier, but more like soft gel foam rather than weak polyurethane foam if that can make any difference. I can say I am able to position my butt back to the very rear of the seat and ride there without fighting to keep from sliding forward and that's a noticeable improvement. As far as how much, if any, the foam improves comfort after a few hours I can't say yet. My next longish ride starts mid August when we're going up to Nova Scotia and New Foundland so I'll have a better feeling after that.

Thanks for the report.

What position did you use the seat in?
I found with the stock ´14 GSA seat, i put the front in ´high´and the back in ´low´(marked H and L respectively on the plastic adjuster)
This helped ALOT with the sliding forward and a little bit with the pressure on my tailbone. Despite this, i could not ride for more than 30 mins without pain/discomfort.
The TT seat (high model) - i use in the ´low´setting and i can ride for much longer without hotspots or discomfort.
Lets see how the exclusive fairs once i get it from Rainbow!

You're welcome. :D

I always ran the stock seat high / high for as much knee room as possible and that's where I left it for the Exclusive. I know a lot of people drop the back down and I tried it once but forget now why I put it back up?
If you look and actually feel the rear of a stock seat you'll notice that while the cover spans level to the back, the foam underneath is actually lower until an inch or so from the back where it rises in the form of a firm ledge. This firm ledge with the foam in front of it slightly lower effectively shortens the seat. The Exclusive does not have that ledge the foam continues to the very back which was immediately noticeable.

I couldn't see how to add these pics to my post which illustrate the "ledge" I was trying to describe.

Picked mine up today. Definitely a better quality seat with more support. I too usually lift up the front to flatten the seat but didn't try it yet with the new seat. Oh and it works fine with the pen passenger seat. There is a tiny gap but if that bothers you put the passenger seat on the forward setting. I prefer more room to move around so it can stay where it is.

Sargent seats FTW

Proper support. Well shaped - tailbone cutout, no sliding into the tank, wider and the wife had zero complaints after sitting on it for 400+ mile days. Underseat storage also better than standard.

I lifted the front end of the seat up to high and left the back as low and took it for a 100-mile ride yesterday. Much more comfy than the oem seat but still sore after 2 hours. Shold be perfect with an air hawk for long rides. The main issue with the GSA is that the jacked-up rear end makes it almost impossible to get a flat seat and even with the high setting at the front the exclusive seat still slopes. I also think that people who design the seats retain the same shape for a sports-style bike but if the handlebars are 6 inches higher the seat shape doesn't work. I wonder how comfy the new Yamaha Tracer is as it has a pan-flat seat?

Seats are a very personal thing (like screens). I found my Sargent far too hard, it's width made it difficult to get a foot down safely and my wife hated it, which was surprising as the Sargent on my VFR800 was superb :nenau

I have also found the standard seat to be uncomfortable for longer rides but I have a cheap and highly effective solution - cycling shorts with a chamois pad - circa £20. No problem with six hour days. Cheers

My issue with Sargent seats for the GSW is they are so low, illustrated by the large step up to the rear seat. I wish they would offer one GSA height and raise the front of it a bit rather than lower the rear.

So i got a note from Rainbow BMW this morning:

¨Hello,

When you placed the order, BMW was showing stock of the high seat. Now they are not showing any at all and they don't expect to have the stock until September.

I am very sorry for any inconvenience that may have occurred, I will refund you you straight away.

Very friendly service, but i am disappointed that i won't be getting my seat anytime soon.
I think i will go to RUSSELL DAY LONG who until today have done 3 seats for me, all which have been supremely comfortable.
The only problem there is the VERY long waiting list and import/shipping costs.

Mine were delayed even though they showed stock on eBay, email today saying they've just been posted so should have them by tomorrow.

If you're going to order from the US I would consider one from Seat Concepts. They don't have a high adventure but do offer an intermediate which is similar height to a regular (not low) stock GS seat only he builds up the front and widens the back a bit. The stock foam he uses is firmer than BMW's stock seat and feels pretty nice although I would request one grade firmer (which they will do upon request). For most bikes they only sell you the foam and cover and you install it yourself. Unless you wish to send them your seat, in which case they'll do the work for you. But they've been selling so many for GS's they now have their own base pans so they offer two options for GS's; pre-moulded foam and cover which you change yourself $169, or the complete seat including a new pan $279. My friend bought the complete seat for his GSW and it is probably more comfortable than the Exclusive I have. They could probably ship one within two weeks.

The front is higher, and the rear is shaped lower. Net, it is the same height as standard but shaped better to stop you slamming your nuts. The pic shows the rider seat in the lower position, hence a slightly larger gap: but no more than with the standard OEM seat. Importantly, it is comfortable and supportive and still looks good. Better than a seat that only looks good but does not offer the support needed...

....or it's an instrument of torture and has you squirming after 10 miles - as I said, seats are very personal and I found the low Sargent terribly uncomfortable
