BMW Exclusive Seats

....or it's an instrument of torture and has you squirming after 10 miles - as I said, seats are very personal and I found the low Sargent terribly uncomfortable í*½í¸¢

The normal height Sargents are fine :)

Finally got my seats, not used them yet so can't comment.

Sitting on it and it doesn't lower it that much it has to be said, feels like my legs are being pushed out more maybe?

Will test ride this week hopefully.

Spot on. Looking at them side by side the stock seat is narrower, but slightly more slanted. The exc seat is flatter and wider at the back with less chamfered sides. I intend to use the stock seat for commuting and the exc seat for longer rides. I did 320 miles on Saturday round the coast from Faversham to Chichester and then back up the A3 - an easy 12 hours - and with the front lifted and an Airhawk it was just bearable. The stock seat would have had me squirming after an hour. I still may try the Sargent as it may suit me better, especially the hollowed out bit where the coccyx sits (oo-er) - the exc seat is still a bit of a pain in that respect.

*UPDATE*

I received my Exclusive (high) seat from Martin @ Rainbow BMW.
Despite the delay in getting the seat, once he had it in stock it was shipped out immediately & communication was great. So top marks for their level of service.

Now, i have a very delicate tailbone (hold the jokes please :rob) and the OEM seat was AWFUL. I could not ride for more than 30 mins without being in agony. I tried everything with the OEM; Alaskan sheepskin, airhawk, cycling shorts, seat position.... you name it - i have it somewhere in my cupboard!
I was hoping that the the Exclusive seat would be the solution. In short - its not.

The exclusive is made very well. In fact MUCH higher quality than the OEM. Its what should have come on the bike from day 1. It is definitely more comfortable than the stock seat too (in every respect) - however i found that my (high) Touratech is the only seat for now that alleviates the horrible pain - probably due to the recess specifically made to reduce pressure on the coccyx.

The TT seat is very hard & took weeks (months even) to get used to. However now that i have sat on all these different types, i can honestly say my tush is happiest on the TT.
I think i should also mention the Russell Day Long seat which i have had quite a few of on different bikes. They are tremendously comfortable seats (maybe THE best), however the only reason i have not purchased one for my GSA is due to the fact that they are not 100% waterproof without the additional cover. And since it is an all-weather bike, i wanted something more practical.

With all that in mind, I am changing the Exclusive riders seat to an exclusive passenger seat (thanks again, Martin) due to the high quality materials and overall comfort, which i believe my wife will enjoy.

I hope this post helps some of the GS riders who are still on the fence regarding the purchase of a new seat.... :beerjug:

Mr Anderson

Did you go with the standard or narrow rear seat? They certainly look good. I'm looking to go lower than standard as I want more positive contact betwixt my feet and floor You said you felt as though your thighs were being pushed out more. If that was the case then this could have the effect of lifting your feet. Have you noticed any improvement in buying the lower seat height?

Seat Update

I'm 5.10" with 31 inside leg. I was not particularly happy with the feet position on the floor, not being able to get them good and flat. This concerned me with a bike that is somewhat top heavy particularly (although I've not carried one yet) with a pillion and maybe a full tank. I've come from an FJR where I could get my feet firmly planted with my knees slightly bent giving good stability.
So I've now got the Comfort Seat ££££££££. I went for the lower front. The seat looks good on my white GSA, better than the standard look. Although nearly 2" lower than standard on the low setting I've put the front on high and the back on low. This has leveled the seat and gives me the option to lower it further if I want to do some off roading and get my feet down. It is comfortable but I didn't have issues with the comfort of the standard seat.
Prior to ordering I discussed with the dealer who advised I order the Standard height as this would be lower than the standard seat. I did not go with his advice and I now have the option of comfortable low and lower if required. It suits me just fine. The new seat is slightly wider which has the effect of reducing the length of your legs to the ground.
What I did find ironic was that they do not stock a range of seat heights to get a good fit before you buy as it is a bit of a shot in the dark. These seats are not cheap and everyone has slightly different characteristics and requirements. When I mentioned it I was informed that then they would have second hand seats on stock. Thing is you try on the clothing for fit before you buy don't you?
What prompted me to address the whole issue was boot slipage when manouvering and then I had a light bulb moment. I have some nice Gortex boots but the soles are manufactured with little heavy duty grip which shows itself when pushing hard. I've taken them for some good grippy soles to be fitted which I'm sure will help. However I've noticed Altberg make some nice boots with good grippy soles. Hmmmmm :) ££££

Hi, mine is the low seat, they don't do narrow however it's not bad.
Comfort wise I've done over 1000 miles in 4 days and had occasional discomfort but given the fact we've done high mileage it's ok.
My wife's seat gave her a little arse ache but was gone the next day.

Longest stint was 4hr 30mins and then it was getting uncomfortable.

Flat footed fully loaded 2up makes for easy handling also.

Neil W, ( page one) thats a good spot- regarding the Triple Black.

The exclusive seat seems a worthwhile spec.

Now considering it ( the triple black) currently has a free top box and rack rack ( which can be upgraded to Varios for £190) , free GPS , Cornering ABS and special Brake Light /Indicator thingy ...alll looks like great value for anyone making a purchase this Autumn.

I've just came back from a 5 days trip where most of the days were riding 10 hour plus and the exclusive seats were brilliant, I can't say enough about them. I didn't think too much of them when I first bought them but really glad I did now.

Eisen 77... maybe I've missed something ? I see the seat has a Touratech badge. But you call it an "Exclusive (high) seat from Martin @ Rainbow BMW."

So may i kindly ask , what seat is it >?

touratech only list Comfort/Comfort breathable/one piece sport for example!

The BMW Exclusive seat is the one with the grey material and is made by BMW. He was comparing it to the Touratech

Surely comfortable seats should come as standard, not be sold as an expensive accessory??:rob
