BMW Extended Warranty

Ok, so my Adventure warranty is nearly up and my dealer offers me an extended warranty for another year, its expensive but compared to work thats been done on the bike maybe not! In the last two years I've had two fork bridges front discs and pads switchgear brake pipes and other stuff. So what if the ABS packs in or some other problem, do I just trust to luck and hope it will just be service items and consumables or fork out and maybe not need anything after all? What do you think? Also consider that it includes recovery if you break down (I think).

Gotta be worth it when you consider the cost of some MBW parts.
ABS pump > £800
I just renewed mine but then the bike is my only transport.
Value seems better when you consider you get the Mondial Assistence package worth ~ £90 as well.
Make sure you renew BEFORE existing warranty expires else the warranty is downgraded to a used bike version which is less comprehensive.

This year a problem in Switzerland and Italy and UK [all same problem finally cured in UK]
.....several recoveries/hotels/taxis/hire cars organised and paid for by just a phone call to them.
Oh yes I do reccommend it - you just don't know if it will happen to you! Never has in the past so i count my lucky stars I had it
[also got loads of bits replaced /worked on that weren't the fault - quids in!!]

Thanks for the replies,I think I've made my mind up I suppose it's kind of like an insurance policy only in this case you hope to make a few claims in order to make some of the money back!Then again I would rather have a more reliable bike in the first place! Is there such a thing? Safe riding, watch those leaves!

£368 from memory. I just upgraded mine before the original warranty expires at the end of November.

My old shed is now into its 4th year - decided to extend and recovered it at first service thereafter.

Yes, it comes with recovery and can transfer with the bike when you/ if you sell on.

Just for 1 year including assistance. You can renew every year until the (BMW) bike is 10 years or 80K miles (or something like that). I didn't ask about multi-year renewal nor did I see it offered.

Extended Warranty a must

Having a BMW extended warranty is the best thing I’ve ever done, I have had my GS1150 for over two years and it has paid for it’s self. The first year I had a new rear shock fitted, but last week I had a strange oil leak appear between the engine and the gearbox so it’s of to the dealers for repair.

Here’s a list of what they found wrong

1: Slave cylinder on the clutch leaking. So the bell housing is covered in brake fluid.
2: brake fluid on the clutch.
3: Input seal on the gearbox leaking. Gearbox oil also on the clutch
4: Pivot bearings on the way out.
5: A small leak on the output seal.
6: Seal on the diff box also weeping.

All is now sorted and running well but I must question BMW’s reliability theses things should not go on a bike with only 23000 miles on the clock should they???
I thought this bike was built to travel the world with no problem. So the last repair bill has paid for my warranty for the next 3 years.

Well-done BMW! Here’s to the next 3 years of questionable reliability.
