My mate has just got a 2006 f800s and wants to add a BMW type socket to his bike so he can charge it and use his 550 on it, can it be wired straight to the battery or do you have to get a new wire from BMW to go into the loom and add it that way?
There's a canbus socket underneath the false tank panels and near to the battery. Nippy Norman etc do pre-made leads, or you can make your own up. There's instructions in the 1200 area for making your own.
Or you could connect it direct to the battery (fused of course) but you may get corrosion problems on the mount.
... for the 650 there is a 'well hidden' auxiliary plug already present, it's hidden either on top of the battery or by the headstock; On Jaqs F650 (Twin) it was on the battery, you'll need to make up a power lead or but one from BMW/GPS Warehouse/Garmin. Other items can be powered using this method.
