I'm trying to get the engine out of my X-country but have stalled at the final hurdle. The final engine bolt (frame side) has a 'special tool' nut holding it in. I'm in a country where there are no dealers, is there a workaround fix or trick to get this out? Thanks for any advice.

Show me a picture and I'll tell you.
I've had a G650X engine out twice and don't remember any special tools required.

You don't actually take the engine out, you take the bike off the engine.

I got it out already thanks. There's no problem that can't be solved with a really big hammer, I guess.

ive just come across this problem . why on earth do bmw decide to put anything other than a normal bolt in is anyones guess, somewhat annoying to say the least. same regarding the swinging arm . why complicate things tut !!

I've got the tool for the engine mount bolt if you need to borrow it , no special tool needed for swinging arm removal

thanks very much for the offer John but im going to buy one . I know the swinging arm doesn't need a special tool, but when I winding the hex bolt out it's extremely stiff and moving the whole swinging arm over and the right side isn't coming out at all. I prefer a simpler way rather than those spigots . but Im probably doing something wrong there's not much information about these bikes it seams

Probably rusting up. If not greased regularly the pins in the bearings and /or collars rust or corrode making extraction of the swing arm bolts v difficult. On the side you are referring to (nearside I think) it's likely the collar has mates itself to the swingarm bolt. Have a look at a schematic and you'll see what I mean.

Trying to unscrew it in one go in the hope of getting more force will only tend to deform the swingarm in a way it's not meant to deform.

Copious amounts of rust ease and penetrating oil, time and gentle tapping in an attempt to release may be the best way forward

On the off side, I think there may be a thread (8mm or similar) in the centre hole so you can try a slide hammer. It's either that, or ive drilled and tapped one in previously to sole that extraction issue.

The swing arm bolts are no longer available

yes the nearside pin and bearing hadn't seen grease since it left the factory I shouldn't wonder .

hi gent's, I to am taking engine out and have come stuck with the last two bolts at back of gearbox.
one is 10mm Alan head and other 8mm they locate through the cast ally suspension hanger. they are soaking in copious amounts of wd but not budging. any advice gratefully appreciated.
btw what's this special tool you guys were talking about?

these are the two culprits.

quick update....success.... got the lower bolt out, used a small blow torch and copious amounts of wd, but not a lot of movement does number 15 in John's diagram have to be loosened or removed ? what does it actually do?
or have I missed something? your thoughts gents appreciated.
