BMW GSW ADVENTURE PRESS LAUNCH

Put down my deposit today, well yesterday, I've just noticed its Sunday now! Anyway, I've got from now till when the actual order is placed to decide on colour and options.

Looking forward to owning one but it will be a massive wrench to see the S1000RR go! I did think about keeping it and having the two but I get this feeling that the RR would get left in the garage for most of the time and rarely get used. I think because I've been doing the sports bike thing for so long now, I'm just ready for something completely different. I'm actually quite excited...!

I went from an R1 to the GS and it puts a smile on my face far more than the R1 ever did, so much so I wished I had changed sooner.
your gonna love it its one of those bikes that, needs some spirited riding and it will take all you can throw at it.

enjoy your new stead mate.

Terry

Cheers Terry, I'm looking forward to a complete change... I've seen what the GS is capable of, and it's versatility, so I'm sure that I'll enjoy it for more days of the year, and in a wider range of riding scenarios than the S1000RR. The RR is an absolutely awesome bike and I've thoroughly enjoyed riding it on road and track, as well as cleaning and polishing it (and admiring it) but know that I'll do more miles on the GSA when I get it.

To my ears the stock bike sounds anaemic with the standard can... The Akra brings it to life with its growl, burbling and popping. An essential purchase.

The RR is an astounding bike. Can you not keep both? At least until the KTM 1290 ships with panniers?

I've had a deposit on one since July. I've now seen the specs so know what's available.
Not sure about the Khaki. I like blue, but not certain about the blue seat?
White seems a bit wishy washy? Will wait until I've seen them at the show until I decide.
I'm also hoping the "1200" decal comes off.
Other than that I'm having an LE with Ally panniers, top box and a new BMW Navigator as I'm selling the old one with my current GSA (Deal Done).
Will get a HP Pipe on it if I can hear one first.
Hoping to pick it up from Williams on or near launch day.

I reckon that the camo-olive/khaki with a new System 6 florescent helmet could work well!

From a distance it would look like a flying helmet.........!

I kept my Fireblade when I bought the GS in June this year. Having pimped it to ridiculous extent with BSB Carbon wheels and 27 other upgrades I couldn't bear to part with it. Had it serviced, MOT'd, polished to a shine and put in the garage. Which is where it has stayed since. The GS is such a great bike that I really don't miss the thrill of the whole sportsbike thing. I think I will sell it in the Spring and wave goodbye to my irresponsible youth forever :-(

Jumblemo, Poshtosser, I've thought it over and over... I could actually afford to keep the RR as well, but it would be a total indulgence and I already know in my mind that I'd only ever use it for the odd track day and very occasional ride out. On many occasions over the years I've tried to convince myself to buy something other than an out-and-out sports bike, but just couldn't do it!!! I even thought about having an alternative 2nd bike, but knew that I'd always be on the sports bike, leaving the 2nd bike collecting dust in the garage. I've ridden all sorts of machines over the years, but have always strongly favoured the sports/race rep bikes. They've just always been my preference for a more dialed-in feeling, and I have always preferred the radical riding position too - probably a throwback to club racing; being over the front has always made me feel in control and a part of the bike.

I'm really looking forward to committing to a GSA and giving it a fair chance to properly get under my skin like sports bikes did. At this stage, I'm confident it will happen. If I still crave a sports bike after 12 months on a GSA, then I'd probably go out and get one and succumb to having two bikes in the garage.

I have the HP pipe and think it sounds just right. Of course this varies with ones taste but would describe the sound with baffles out as perfect for me. Not too loud but enough sound to let one have a sense that the thing is alive.

I've always had after market exhausts and have an Akro on my Fireblade which sounds awesome. It also added a few BHP.
I listened to a GS with the Akro on (baffles in) and was seriously underwhelmed particularly when I heard it makes no performance difference at all so to me it appeared to be purely a matter of asthetics. I might reconsider if the baffles make a big difference but haven't heard one yet. So in summary - does taking the baffles out make a BIG difference to the sound?

Well here it is a sneak look before the Milan Show...... Of the new GSA

I had a 'Blade and an RT in my garage for 3 years.
The 'Blade did nothing more than gather dust tbh.

:blast:blast:blast

Wtf happened that the GS now runs sports road tyres and loud pipes as must have accessories. At least all the old tat on the older bikes claimed to make some improvement. How big a muppet do you have to buy a performance part that actually claims to make no difference? I have a nice bmw rallye5 suit for sale which actually feels like you are wearing nothing at all, send me 3 grand and I'll get it tailored to fit perfectly to ya!

I am afraid the WCA doesn't do it for me in the looks or function department. I was keen to own a GSA but just can't see the extra range being worth the extra weight and bad looks. Will makea more informed judgement after I see one in the flesh.

Quite fancy one subject to test ride and more importantly PRICE!!!!

Wow, whoever took the piccy, looks better than the ones released by BMW.
I've just bought a GS 2014 model as I didn't initially like the GSA, starting to wish I had waited.
Like the pannier rails & engine \ radiator protectors.
Although I REALLY like my new bike, but I can see an upgrade on the horizon early next year
