BMW GSW ADVENTURE PRESS LAUNCH

:blast:blast:blast

Wtf happened that the GS now runs sports road tyres and loud pipes as must have accessories. At least all the old tat on the older bikes claimed to make some improvement. How big a muppet do you have to buy a performance part that actually claims to make no difference? I have a nice bmw rallye5 suit for sale which actually feels like you are wearing nothing at all, send me 3 grand and I'll get it tailored to fit perfectly to ya!

I had the performance exhaust fitted to the 'Blade for two reasons: firstly it improved performance noticibly (with a Power Commander V) but mostly because when I first got it with stock exhaust I was nearly sideswipped on two seperate occasions as I overtook cars as they didn't see or hear me. Since I had the Akro on it never happened again as they know you are behind them. I appreciate it would make no difference to the GS performance - hence my reluctance but as I commute on the GS which is mainly on roads (!) the noise aspect could be useful as long as it is not too offensive.

Just a question how can I add my details under my post like you have ????

Agree.....it does look massive in this shot too!! Over 6ft tall!:augie

I'd love one, but my legs are too short and they're not doing a lowered version as far as I can tell :(

Loud pipes save lives?

You should try using your eyes and rely on them! Think I'm wrong? You ride your noisey bike blindfolded and I'll ride mine with the standard exhaust but with my eyes wide open :D

To spend lots of money on a non performance exhaust makes no sense to me, but if it makes you feel quicker it's probably worth every penny :blast

The fact that it's classed as essential makes me cringe at how non GS the new model has become. Is anyone actually riding on knobblies and discovering it's usefulness off road other than the bm riding school?

I am suprised that carbon wrap and rim tape aren't right up there in the essential catagory :banghead:

I think you'll find most buy the bike for other reasons than its off road ability :comfort

The GSA always has been the biking equivalent of a 'Chelsea Tractor' its just a couple of actors rode some around a few foreign countries which added to the 'Adventure' fantasy that a load of people have since bought into (me included)

Accept the bike for what it is to most who buy one, a bloody good comfortable road bike with a great fuel range which is suited to the creaking old joints of slightly overweight middle aged men, not what BMW's blurb claims it to be

Spot on. That's certainly why I'm getting one.

Cheers
Jimmy

If your limbs creak that badly you'll be stopping well before tank range comes into it, no matter what bike you ride. 30 litres will be no more useful to you than 18 or 22 and a vanilla GS just as comfortable. Finding fuel anywhere in 'civilised' Europe is not a problem, whilst the vanilla lighter bike will be easier to pull and push around in the car park at the end of the day's adventuring..... Important when some struggle to get the heavier bike onto its centre stand and off again and / lor ifting it up off its sidestand at rest.; though these bods might just have little legs, so can be ignored quite safely.

When I used to take my previous GSA down to the south of France I would always blast back home in a day on the autoroutes, and this would always include using a whole tank of fuel without stopping. For those 850m days, the difference between the GS and the GSA tank range is material. I find the GSA seat more comfy, and the GSA screen provides better wind protection. I'm hoping the new GSA will inherit all of those characteristics.

Just how many 850 miles days do normal riders regularly do? Look at the correspondence in the Travel section and / or from the bimblers living under the steely eye of SWMBO, to get a clue to the answer. As for using autoroutes, you are committing a gross GS Tosser's heresy.... Cardinal Fang, read the charges.....

Yeah, I know, shocking ain't it. I like to bimble on the outbound trip, and then at some point I will suddenly have had enough and I just want to get straight back as quick as possible. Probably the best solution, which I've only done once, is to leave the bike down there, fly home, and then go back out there again a few weeks later and carry on.

Big Nick, you have hit the point quite beautifully. It has become an RT with added macho, so why spend huge amounts of cash on a non performance enhancing product that will make more noise and get on ya tits on long journeys for no advantage at all :blast

As for 850 mile days, I did 1000 miles in one day on the 1150 GS this summer heading down to Spain, no autoroute all A road. I welcomed the fuel stops. Pull over, fill up, fag, drink, helmet on and away ya go every 200 miles or so.

I'd hold off on the new adv, they'll be offering it with free man bag and deck shoes in the spring :augie

The fuel range itself isn't the issue for me its the lack of trips required to the petrol station for day to day use especially commuting

Personally I find it really convenient not having to fill up all week on the daily commute and the GSA tank capacity means around half the number of fill ups over the ownership term of the bike.

Call it lazy but that's me!

Again, that makes perfect sense to me, far more use than it is on a tour around europe. Maybe it should be called the commuter edition :D

Found a couple of pics from over the pond I quite like.:D

How much more does the GSWA weigh empty than the GSW ? it doesn't look like it will be as big a difference as the previous incarnation ?

About 50 pounds more, you're right a bit less of a difference than before.
