BMW Motorrad Connected App, should it connect automatically?

I commuted last Thursday on the bike and no journey recorded.. Did the same journey today its worked today 🤔

Finally gave a numerical display in the white (speed limit) box on the TFT, rather than just two dashes.

It was not used as a SatNav but connected via Bluetooth AND location settings to Always.

Phone was sited in my Handlebar bag
My speed limit was showing, as was the phone signal and battery. Mine's set to always too, speaking of which it's quite annoying as it asks me to confirm this quite often, weekly or even twice weekly. It says something like "Connected App connected to your phone x times in x days, do you still want to allow it".

Weird, again something I have ever had to do that I can remember

But if they have updated the app (which I know is not that often) I think it will do it then

But I certainly do not have it anywhere near as often as you

does this require the phone to be connected via the cradle, i.e. being used as a sat nav?
No, just connected to the phone.
As i mentioned above though, make sure the white box is visible on the TFT to ensure it`ll record, no white box no recordy...

When you say white box are you referring to the speed limit box? If so this was on and working, but it didn't record the ride :nenau

Oh FFS, the App is flakey at the best of times but with mine if i see the white speed limit box it`s a clue that it`s connected and recording.
Obviously not on all bikes....
Go through the App and phone settings and enable anything that looks like it will help with recording a ride?

Bloody tech......

Yep, done all that :ROFLMAO: I'm usually pretty tech savvy and thought I'd done everything right hence starting the thread to see what the normal behaviour is :thumb2

After I hadn't used my bike for a while, I was getting the white box speed limit but was not getting rides recorded. Check the settings in the "Journey Settings" on the app, I had to switch "Tour recording" back on.
Thanks, this was the first thing I checked :thumb2

What I did notice is that it didn't record my journey. It looks as though this should be automated considering you can set the min distance and time for a journey to be recorded, but does this require the phone to be connected via the cradle, i.e. being used as a sat nav?
Nope, that should Just Work™ as long as the app's connected. My app has a tendency to log me out for no particular reason, that might be worth checking.

App was connected, as I mentioned above the speed limit display was showing as was the battery and signal level of the phone. It seems very temperamental :nenau

Six years ago, I started the Facebook Group BMW Connectivity. TFT, CRN & Smart Glasses.
As the Group Administrator, with 26K members, I've heard it all. 99% of all issues are :
1) User error
2) Incompatible hardware
Also, Interestingly, 90% of all users have no issues at all.
Yes, The Mobile device, & Headset sould connect automatically each time. This issue specifically is an IOS permissions issue.

It could of course be user error, I'm not immune to it but I'm usually pretty tech savvy and I'm the one that people come to to sort out issues with computers, phones etc. :nenau I have been through all permissions and they are all as expected.

I am going to delete my phone and repair it with the bike and see if that fixes it :thumb2

So I’ve been out on a ride again today, phone connected fine, could see the battery and signal strength and also the speed limit but when I go to “Rides” in the app no rides are logged.

What’s really baffling is this evening I’ve just had the pop up again saying something like “connected has synced to you phone 35 times in the last three days” and asks for permission to continue to allow access. It also had a map which showed my journey today.

Clearly it’s tracking me then, but it’s not showing up in “Rides”, anyone have any idea why not, and also why it keeps asking for permission despite me clicking always every time?

Allow all options in the app and check your phones app permissions. Make sure you download the maps for your region in the app.

Out`n`about yesterday rather than `preload` the App and having it in the background on my phone i just left the phone as-is to see what would happen.
There were three stages to my ride.
It connected and recorded the first stage.
It did not record the second stage - signal and battery icons visable but no white speed limit box.
It recorded the third stage.
It`s a bit hit and miss..

Mine did the same yesterday afternoon. Started off recording and connected and a minute later it dropped out. Probably a glitch in the system.
