After being with them for the last 3 or 4 years (and them being extremely competitive), they've now changed from Devitt to some other crappy firm. Result is, last years insurance policy on a 22 model K1600GT went from £261 to £470!!!

Now gone to Carole Nash which, amazingly have managed to undercut even last years quote at £241 on a Select policy. Even their 'full' policy was only £300 (which includes full breakdown cover/recovery for UK and EU).

BMW obviously don't want to insure their own bikes any more. Thieves.

BMW are not an insurer. The broker (I use the term broadly) packages together a load of BMW bikes and flogs the concept to BMW, who give it their blessing. BMW, the brand, have (for whatever reasons) ceased in their relationship with Devitt, who used to administer the similarly branded Honda scheme, amongst others.

The new insurer of the BMW scheme has upped the premiums - it’s happening all over the place - or the new scheme arranger (broker) has upped their cut or both.

Your broker has now found you a better deal, so you are better off. BMW have sold you the bike already, so they don’t give a feck who you insure with.

No, I appreciate BMW aren't the insurer, nor is the broker obviously.

But they put their name to the scheme and, even allowing for the rises in insurance across the board, I'm fail to see how a corporately branded product of theirs justifies a near 100% increase in cost on their product. Especially, when insurance is actually available elsewhere at much more reasonable costs.

And obviously, your comment about BMW "not giving a feck" about the insurance of the bike after you've paid them handsomely for clearly applies to many aspect of the post ownership experience for people these days. Your long and continuous saga that you documented on here with your TFT screen and its issues being one. The whole issue of the Connected Ride app and how poorly it works is another. Having to fight them to get warranty issues paid for.

I wouldn’t look too deeply into it.

For some bods, the BMW branded thing might still be their best (or only) option and / or their insurers prices might reduce.

Shop around, it’s the only way to find terms to suit YOU and never assume that, because it’s got a vehicle manufacturer’s logo on the paper, it has to be a good deal. Likewise, anything that sniffs of: ‘By bikers, for bikers’ is simply click bait.

It’s quite obvious that BMW like most companies charge whatever they can get away with. Insurance companies are the same. JJH

That’s capitalism for you. Of course, some will undercharge (or pay themselves too much) and go bust. Such is the way of the world.
