Bmw nav 4 low sound

Hi Kevin:

Thanks very much for explaining everything so well.

I have been extraordinarily frustrated with this Zumo 660 and BMW helmet/communications system since I purchased them both about 2 years ago. The info you posted is the first solid advice I have found about how to fix the problem.

Right now, I'm on Vancouver Island, and the moto / Zumo / helmet is in Zurich. I'll be going there later this week (for a month of riding), I'll let you know how the fix works for me.

Based on what I have read elsewhere, I kinda/sorta think that the key issue is resetting the helmet, not the Zumo itself. Apparently the helmet has two different pairing protocols, one for high quality stereo audio (i.e. music) and one for lower quality monaural audio (i.e. the nav instructions). I think that in my case, I have the two sources set up the wrong way around, perhaps as a result of the sequence in which I originally paired things up.

Hi Kevin:

Just a follow-up here, for the benefit of other forum members who might have the same problem in the future -

Resetting the Zumo device, and resetting the BMW Communicator II helmet intercom device did solve my low volume problem. I suspect that it was the reset of the helmet Bluetooth device that actually fixed the problem, because I had reset the Zumo itself several times in the prior two years, and the problem persisted.

Everything worked great for a day. Now, the friggin' BMW Communicator II helmet intercom won't turn off (it just displays a slowly blinking green light), and it won't pair up (automatically) with the Zumo, and the three buttons on the helmet control panel (power, +, and - ) appear to be frozen up. I don't think that this is necessarily a follow-on from the reset I did earlier, it might be an entirely new problem. So, right now, I am waiting for the battery to die in the helmet (have been waiting over 24 hours now - why doesn't the friggin' battery last that long when I am out riding?) so that I can determine if the helmet fixes itself after the battery runs down and I charge it up again.

I am getting seriously pissed off with the quality of the BMW helmet intercom systems. I bought the BMW Communicator I system and associated helmet about 5 years ago - it turned to crap, and BMW abandoned it - and I have had ongoing problems with the BMW Communicator II system since buying it about 2 years ago.

My next helmet intercom system will NOT be from BMW, and I most strongly advise fellow riders to avoid the BMW branded helmet intercoms like the plague, because BMW just doesn't provide any form of post-sale support.

I'm sorry to hear that you continue to have problems. At £300 for the kit, you would really expect a great deal more - in terms of solid quality and support from BMW.

If its only 2 years old, why not try the supplying dealer for a replacement. As far as I understand, BMW kit usually has a 2 year warranty. Beyond 2 years, you may find that they work on a 'good will' gesture.

Personally, I would take the helmet / kit to the dealer so that they can inspect it in its current faulty state.

Best of luck.
