All, I thought I would quickly pen my experiences down so that consideration to both of these products can be made.
BMW Nav IV: great bit of kit, tried and tested both home and abroad. Just watch out for the logging of your speed when you have it turned on; I don't know if you can turn this off but it does record your highest speed!
The bad points.
Firstly, BMW NAV IV A2DP (playing music from your sat-nav) currently will not work with the SRC System; each time you try to connect it will say ‘Bluetooth did not connect’ or words to that effect. Schuberth say that they will be releasing a ‘patch’ that will amend this problem; I am still waiting after bringing up the issue with them in May.
So in order to listen to my music I connect my IPhone to the SRC System, it works sometimes, other times it plays intermittently with 5-10 second gaps. I thought it could be one of the following issues…
High Wind interference
Low Battery life on either of the devices
Quality of recordings
Well it is none of these issues as I have tried to replicate, made a mental note of situations, paired up the devices on numerous occasions ensuring that the pairing goes well prior to getting on the bike… The variable volume doesn’t work when you plug the SRC system directly into your Ipod/Iphone so it remains too quiet. I have used the phone with the device on the move (incoming calls) and it is quite good although the volume is painfully low and will not raise when pressing the right button. It could be argued that it could be an issue with the phone…
Oh, and I never did get the radio to work.
The good points.
Helpfully when the sound is working the volume rises along with your speed.
Even though the Nav IV cannot deliver music to the device, the directional voice prompts are very good.
It is quite comfy although requires some ‘bedding in’ at the beginning when closing the flip front.
Very easy to fit.
I will stick with it for a while; I travel 500 miles a week and need some stimulus as I ride up and down the A1! I just hope that I can finally use it with my Nav IV and therefore connect up all three devices as they should be IN THE MANUALS!
Any other questions please ask.
