We know that the speedo reads about 10-15% mph and a good correction for this is to fit a R1100R/RT speedo drive

If the mph bit 'over reads', does the odometer also 'over read' ?

So a 35,000 mile GS on the clock is really a 31,500 mile GS in reality

When touring on my 1100RT we set the odo's to zero once and did a day's ride Hotel A to Hotel B, wheel for wheel with other GS's and the RT always recorded the lowest odo reading

So, in that case are servicing our bikes to frequently:nenau

Think this was all discussed years ago. But nowt like opening up a can of worms...

Have you uncovered BMW plot to get us back in thier workshops more often:eek:
There was a superb 1150 gsa at Cassington bike night last night,2002 and only 7000 miles black and yellow ,thought for a mo that you had brought one of your fleet south.

I had to sell my 1100GS after I fitted the R speeedo drive due to those concerns :(

Bugger, don't say that John I've only just got my 1100GS. I can't part with it this soon, can I? :eek

Be carefull then, if you don't know it's over reading the on the mph then you won't have to worry about it ;)

But, do not at any times, compare the speed / odometer to a GPS :rob

30,000 to 35,000 miles........ fecking hardcore that mate......

And when do you think the odo and speedo lose being linked..... if they ever are?:comfort

Just asking> Do you know the answer?

35,000 was just an arbitary figure, could have been 50k or 15k:D:augie

They are not linked as such, speedo magnet and hair spring. Odometer gear driven. Front tyre wear will slightly change both readings. But really lifes to short :thumb

miles

Thats a relief , was just about to sell mine as its coming near 60,000 but now that its only done 55,000 might just have to keep it:beer:
