Hi

I am thinking of getting shut of my 1989 R100GS Bumblebee and looking to buy a BMW /5 around 1971, can anyone give me some on advise on the engines and which one is the sweet spot and what to look out for.

I prefer the larger tank with the knee pads and not a toaster type. I am in the early stages of doing a bit of research so any advise would be appreciated. I would be using it for touring and knocking about the Dales

Thanks

I’m a bit of a fan of the /5 bikes.

Considered ugly by many in the 80’s, they have grown into their looks.

I particularly like the instruments, switches and silencers - all so retro looking.

I’ve owned several /5s including R50/5’s and currently have an R75/5.

While the 50/5 was fine for pottering and smooth as you like, you may prefer the 75/5 for the Dales.

Just a little bit more oomph for loping along

My old 50/5 only had a kick starter - no starter motor - but always fired up readily.

Good luck in your search
