BMW Recall

Polecat,

Maybe your 09 bike is subject to a recall or a campaign or a 'fix' or a 'service bulletin', or whatever they care to call it. But maybe BuMW are perhaps dealing with the problem in a sequential basis? For instance bikes one to 300, then bikes 301 to 600. Then 601 to 900 or whatever.....

<snip> <snip>

Now, call Cannons and ask them if your bike is to be brought in and if so, when.

So why was it so difficult to answer like this in the first place....?

Wherein lies the answer to you problem.

Your post was in two parts:

OK, so from past coverage you can possibly work out an answer, perhaps?

We are all now wondering the same thing.

So, instead of calling Matthew Terry at Cannons to find out why a bike has not been recalled, I will post a question here, in the forlorn hope that he sees it.

OK, failing any answer from Matthew, here are my guesses:

(a) You bike is not subject to any recalls. You just think it is, for whatever reasons.

(b) Your bike is subject to recalls but BuMW or Cannons forgot to tell you.

(c) Your bike is subject to recalls and BuMW or Cannons did tell you, but the letter got lost in the post.

(d) Your bike is subject to recalls and BuMW or Cannons did tell you. The letter did not get lost in the post, but you chucked it in the bin as junk mail.

(e) Your bike is subject to recalls and BuMW or Cannons did tell you. The letter did not get lost in the post, but you could not read it and / or forgot.

With a bit of effort I could possibly think up some other possibilities involving, bubonic plague, mass amnesia, sun spots, giant teddy bears, 50 strippers from Spearmint Rhino, Basildon's mayor and a fishing boat from Canvey.

Why do YOU think Cannons have failed to contact you?

What might YOU have done and / or do to find out why?

===

When you find out from Mr Terry, do please let us know. If Cannons / BuMW have been negligent it's good for others to know. If you have cocked up, at least it will help to salve your conscience to confess.

We're back to poisonous sarcasm again, aren't we? Why do you never give up? Do you really enjoy belittling other forum members?

So why was it so difficult to answer like this in the first place....?

Because, "Ring them up and ask, perhaps? That should help ease your wondering." is much much quicker. Just 12 words in all. I could have shortened it further of course and been very explicit. Maybe I should have done and given you something to really squawk about?

Now, in case polecat misses my considered but wordy reply because of your farmyard clucking (and as they met with your obvious satisfaction) I'll repeat them. You will note that the last sentence is 18 words, exceeding the original 12 by 50%, which is a shame.

Got to dash. Bye.

Then 601 to 900 or whatever.

That might make perfect sense. If your bike is in tranche three then there may well be a delay before your notification is posted out. Similarly, if your bike has been in for some work (say a routine service) it's quite possible that the rectification work was done but you were not informed; it's not unknown.

Another possibility is that some bikes within the batch numbers do not need doing, as they were assembled differently. Again, this is not unusual.

For instance, many 06 bikes were subject to a Fuel Pump Controller fix. Mine wasn't on the batch lists. How do I know? Because I called my friendly BuMW dealer and asked.

This may on the face of it be odd, as my bike had had a FPC failure, which I fixed myself (see thread) which BuMW could not have known about, implying that it should have summoned in by BuMW but wasn't. So, nothing is entirely perfect.

Another possibility is that BuMW are dealing with the issue using their own database, not the DVLA's. This is quite possible and quite above board.

If you bought the bike second hand, whilst the DVLA (I assume) know you are the keeper, BuMW possibly do not. Whether that is the case, or who has the responsibility to keep BuMW's own records up to date, is a matter of possible conjecture.

Now, call Cannons and ask them if your bike is to be brought in and if so, when.

Arrghhh... FFS...

Pick up a phone (remember them?) and call Cannon's. Its a complex world, eh?

Simple, easy.

Please, don't ask me what what sort of phone you need to call them though.

I tell ya what, I might be popping into Cannon's later; should I inform them you might be calling so they can be prepared for a call?

I love threads like this... so full of rage and stupidity.

Why, waaaaa.... why..... didn't Cannon's call me.... why....

Yet another example of sarcasm from one of a minority of people on this forum who feel the need to criticise rather than help. It is people like you Wapping who will drive people away from this forum. Feel proud of yourself.

How amusing - all I would like to say is that actually Wapping's responses are one of the reasons (there are many others) that I enjoy this forum - the opposite effect of driving away I am afraid.

For the record I don't always agree with him (we are still free to think as we like) but I like the man's style.

I shall now stand back and await developments......

I'm new to the forum, so for the time being I'm happy to play the grey man. (two ears, one mouth ..... ). My world at work is a very blokey environment, (I know I know I know ... there are ladies on the forum, but you get my jist...). and more often than not you need to stand up for yourself and tell somebody to shut the Feck up!!!
On here, as long as its tongue in cheek and not deliberately nasty or unkind, a bit of sarcastic piss taking doesn't bother me. (A very subjective view of course).
To be fair to Wapping, for every FECKING SARCASTIC answer he does dish out!!!!, (which often make me really laugh out loud), there are probably a dozen very useful replies that are a helpful contribution to the thread.
Bring on the banter I say. Be a bit dull otherwise wouldn't it?
(remember this thread?? http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=216788&highlight=iraq - best read I had for months .... :)).

Bring on the cutting sarcasm. It amazes me how offended people get at Mr Wapping's well crafted and amusing posts. :comfort

I certainly tune in here to enjoy reading the banter. One recent thread involving "Wind Noise + Buffeting" had me really chuckling.

I think folk have varying sensitivity levels and one man's light hearted banter is another's sarcasm. I rate the "offending article" in this particular thread as Banter or simply tongue-in-cheek schoolboy humour.

However, there are members of this parish who can be downright offensive and I have personally suffered from this in the past.

Seconds out . . Round 3!
