BMW Recall

Just before I acquired my 2009 GS it went to BMW for a recall to replace the "rear wheel flange".
What part would this have been and why the recall?
Just out of interest really.

This, I believe, would have been the aluminium mounting assembly for the rear wheel, which suffered stress fractures on occasion, hence the recall.

It was the aluminium rear disc mounts that were cracking around the bolt holes.

And replaced with a steel one. So easy enough to check.
