BMW RECALLS R & K SERIES BIKES PRODUCED BETYWEEN 2003 - 2011

Ive spoken to Rainbow BMW in Rotherham who say they are awaiting further instructions from BMW at end of March before going ahead with any recalls. Whilst the recall is no doubt true, the info has been leaked slightly prematurely and BMW haven't commenced any UK recalls yet.

Apparently BMW are sending out 'red' letters to owners of 23,000 affected bikes. Assuming your bike is on the recall list, and the bike is registered to you with DVLA, then BMW will write to you using the address shown on your log book.

I seem to remember when there was a case of this happening on 2004-approx 2007 machines that the part was redesigned as the part numbers changed? The original one I had (that did crack, two wheel holes and 3 disc mounts before I spotted it) was a different part number and construction from the one I got from motorworks. I wonder if we are now saying the updated part is duff as well? Suppose we will have to wait and see as theoretically my 2006 adv will be in the recall but has been changed to a different part anyway. I thought the issue had gone away with this new part?

At least you only have to worry about your corrosion, gearbox, switchgear, frame alignment and the flapper valve (which in your case seems to get an awful lot of action :D)

I rarely worry about anything - I am cooler than ice baby :)

Don't hold your breath, I got a recall notice for my BMW car back in December, the work still hasn't been done, no parts available they keep telling me.

If a recall is safety related , ie someone can say that their wheel fell off and they were hurt and they want to sue the backside off BMW then it will be sorted very quickly ....... witness the corporate panic over the r1200rt rear shock debacle.

Spoke to my local dealer who says they are waiting for details BUT they reckon it is caused by overtightening !!!!!! Asked if it is a safetly recall will BMW transport he bike back to the dealer and will BMW recompense anyone who has paid their own money out to have the repair carried out

Printed a copy of the recall data off and my wife has it just in case the wheel comes off.........(mind you I was a bit suspicious when I found her in the garage with a torx socket on a breaker bar and a 6 foot length of scaffolding bar in the other hand ....... she normally doesn't help in the garage)

I'm not near my bike to check but I'm assuming (looking at the photo) that a visual inspection can be carried out by the owner without the need to remove the rear wheel? But the again I see in the Visordown article they are also talking about the wheel nuts being overtightend too
