BMW reliability.

I owe the bike an apology.....! I replaced the HT leads and spark plugs and found that the misfire was still there.
I could feel that the exhaust on the LHS wasn't getting warm so determined that the fault was with the carburettor. (I've fitted a pair of 40mm Bings). I removed the top expecting to find a torn diaphragm only to find the needle had worked it's way upwards from the retaining clip.
It's just typical that, due to my modifications, I've compromised the bike's reliability by fitting Airhead parts!
(It doesn't say in the handbook that you can't fit them....):D

I seem to remember you posting that fitting airhead parts made a vast improvement to your bike performance :augie

You got problems?

My pilot bulb just went!!! 78000 miles, down the road on all sides at different times and now this happens!. More expence!.
Dave GS. (still living with foxy for the moment!).

mine rolled past 100k a couple of weeks ago and TBH its a right pain, every 200 miles I have to put fuel in :augie From studying the service history it seems to have been a right pita for the previous owner too :D

Returning home today on my bike when it developed a mis-fire, eventually only running on one cylinder. After testing a few items, I found that the right-hand side sparkplug lead had failed.
I'm going to approach BMW on Monday and ask about a 'goodwill payment' towards it's replacement. The bike is a 1994 R1100GS with 142K on the speedometer.
I bought the BMW about 7 years ago expecting 100% reliability, but this has not been the case, it was only 3 years ago that the speedometer cable broke!
And people think the R1100GS is the best of the twins:confused:

this is a joke yeah?

Yep, the bike's a total joke, I don't know if I'm going to be able to keep it for another 7 years, my confidence has been dented, especially after reading of other owners problems.:D
And why has every single tyre I've bought for it lost all it's tread after a few thousand miles?
