Answer to yours, No problem you missed the sarcasm bit never mind.... why don't you use it if thier has been a lot of salt on the road ? it ain't gonna make a tuppence of difference if you wash it off with warm or cold ' as long as it's a good wash..


I just wee on the salt.

Question. Whats the problem with using warm water to wash your bike? I wouldn't use it if there's been a lot of salt on the road. However, I do find warm water more efficient in cleaning grime, crud etc. Bike's always cold when I do this, always with a dedicated bike cleaner.

Warm water only exacerbates the effect of the salt in the detergent. moreso if its not properly rinsed off afterwards

A 'dedicated' bike cleaner.... or even the cheapest car shampoo will be completely salt free... so no problem.

I use Halfords cheapest 'car shampoo' a bottle of which lasts me about 6 months... 1 capfull in a bucket of warm water... rinsed off with at least 2 buckets of cold.

In wintry salty conditions i throw a couple of buckets of water over the front and rear of the bike... then give it a proper 'shampoo' as and when i can be bothered...

Bike has damage to the paint on one of the cylinder heads... but despite the fact it lives outside and is ridden all year round there is NO corrosion at all.

but then it is an 1100...

All i can say is fair comment... I genuinely didn't know there was any "rust accelerant" issues with using washing liquid... obviously had i been aware of this i wouldn't have used it.....

Makes me laugh the way people just "assume" that everybody else "knows" what is right and not..... can't say i've ever been advised by anyone not to use the stuff.... and it's hardly "obvious". As a product designed for an element of "de-greasing" i didn't realise there were any problems, after all, i've used on my cars for years and never had any problems.

That said... now i know, i shall not be using the stuff again.... lessons learnt and all that!
