Decisions decisions had the GS two years and now had the extended warranty forms through......

As you're probably all aware cover is for named parts and labour...

Also covered for European breakdown with repatriation and loan-bike if needed.....

£310.00 with £100 excess or £360.00 with no excess......

This question has been done to death on here but would you go for it or not ?

Does anyone know what the cost next year and the following years would be?

i.e. my pet insurance went from £35.00 to £99.00 per month over an 8 year period, at which point I threw the towel in and cancelled it.

i guess if i had bought from new i would have it for peace of mind, at least until the bike had done a reasonable mileage

not sure what the servicing restrictions are but need to factor this cost in, if you could have had it done elsewhere or yourself

mine was bought used and the one year warranty ends soon, i doubt i will renew as dont want the cost of dealer servicing and am happy to take the risk that anything that goes wrong could well be fixable for £300ish (although mine has no ABS, servos or other complexity!)

Like any insurance policy, it is 'best' value if you are unfortunate enough to have a claim larger than the annual premium and the excess combined. But less 'good' if you do not. That is because it is a policy of indemnity not an investment.

It is up to you and nobody else to decide. To help you, consider whether over the next 365 days you have enough spare cash to carry out a major repair to the final drive. That would cost perhaps, £1000. If you do, then do not bother.

If you do not, resign yourself to paying the premium and (possibly) saving yourself either £640 or £590 depending on which option you chose.

How you value the European wide recovery aspect and / or whether you already have recovery available via your Motor insurer or via the AA or RAC is entirely your concern, too.

You may also need to factor in that it is (I think) a pre-requisite that you have the bike serviced according to the manufacturer's timetable at an authorised BuMW dealer. If you intend to do this anyway, you can discount that consideration.

The insurance of your dog rose as it got older. That is understandable. When dogs, motorbikes humans get old they start to wear out and breakdown. The risk element for the underwriter increases, which pushes the premium northwards. I think that the cost of BuMW's Extended warranty cover remains near enough fixed each year, they simply refuse to insure bikes over a certain age or mileage. If at some time in the future (assuming you keep the bike) BuMW change their premiums you will have the option then to either renew or not, just as you did for your dog. It really will be that simple for you to decide.

As to anything else? Trawl through the pages of threads on the topic. It has indeed been done to death with as many opinions on whether it is a good or bad buy as there are on what tank bag or tyres are the dog's danglies.

Still not got my warranty book through more than six months after buying the bike.

Phoned the supplying dealer several times and kept being told BMW had run out, E-mailed BMW (E-Mail ignored) then phoned BMW who also said they had run out and I would get one soon.

If they cannot even get a ****ing warranty book out I dread to think how difficult making a claim is, especially as you have no idea of what is covered, talking of which....

Opinions here are very divided with claims of the warranty being almost as good as original manufacturers warranty, to it only covers engine and gearbox.

My intention was to have full BMW servicing and renew warranty each year, from what I have seen here and the "do not give a **** attitude" of dealers and BMW I cannot see the point.

I will probably not pay up £350 for a "warranty" when you cannot even obtain the T&C's, nor continue to pay extortionate service rates to the main dealers. I will just put the £350 to one side, get bike serviced cheaper by an indie (and probably get a far better job judging by stories of over-charging and under-servicing on this forum) and sell the bike before 20k so the next sucker gets the inevitable FD failure.

I always take out warranty as I like peace of mind as I couldn't fix things myself. If for a few hundred pounds I get peace of mind then it's worth it imo. However, you have to decide what's right for you :thumb2

Rasher, write to the MD of BuMW (UK) telling him what has happened or (more accurately) what has not happened.

Tell him that as it is an insurance backed product they are in breach of their FSA obligations to provide the policy holder with a copy of the policy's terms and conditions at inception.

Go on to tell him that until such time as you receive the policy document you are assuming that everything is covered and will anyway be raising the matter with the FSA. Copy the letter to the FSA.

That is exactly what i did when the monkeys at Devitt cocked up my three separate cover notes for about seven months. It was amazing how quickly the correct paperwork arrived thereafter.

PS Just check first that it is the insured version you have bought and not some sort of dealer 'product' or you will look like a total Turk. Even if it is, write to BuMW's MD, simply amending your letter a little. 10-1 says he will get someone to sort it out.

Don't send emails, they just get ignored. MD's find it very hard to ignore letters.

Name and address of BuMW's MD findable on a Google search. They hang out in Bracknell.

My bike is out of manufactures warranty this November and I had a quote from warranty direct £230 which gives me the same cover as the BMW warranty

They quoted me £230 online, but reduced it to £200 when their sales rep phoned up. EU wide breakdown cover is included in my Carole Nash bike insurance policy, so I didn't need to pay for that.

Ok, somebody talk me through Warranty Direct ..... (please!)..... :thumb

bmw extended warranty

As said its piece of mind £1000 for FD fault is a bitter pill to swallow ,also FUEL PUMP CONTROLLER common failure ,FD outer seal ,but it can only be serviced by main dealer to stay fully covered with the extended warranty,an the cover dosnt go up every year like pet insurance, and your covered upto 80,000 miles.decisions ,decisions decisions :blast :thumb

Ha! Ok,Thanks. (you have me all wrong - I don't do doughnuts and I regularly excercise .... :D)

Have BMW warranty :thumb never had any problems with claims all very smooth, so far warranty has replaced ECU (very expensive) rear shock (also  expensive) gear selector switch and a few minor parts and of course covered all the labour to do the work.

So you pays your money and takes your choices, but I do have a good relationship with the service manager and dealership which helps.

Rasher generally IMO you only here the bad stuff here re dealers etc.

Weird ..... I bought an RT from Bath Road Motorcycles aka Bristol Motorrad on the 17th March and my BMW extended warranty policy booklet arrived with me on Monday 21st March so it's probably just you they're picking on :augie

It doesn't have to be a "main dealer" it can be an approved indie. In Cardiff we all use Mike at Cardiff Motorrad for servicing. The warranty is unaffected, providing he uses genuine BMW parts, which he does. Much cheaper too:thumb

That's the case with the first two year's manufacturer's warranty but I don't think it's the case with extended one.

The extended one is an insurance policy and they can apply what terms they like - one them being it has to be serviced at a main dealers.
