Thanks guys.... some great replies there, I think Wapping hit it on the head when he said what's right for me...
I should point out it's a GS + all the bells and whistles i.e. electronic suspension, traction control, ABS etc etc (So more to go wrong I guess).
What attracted me to the GS wasn't Ewan

or Charlie for that matter
I was touring the Alps with a friend on a K1300 and seeing the service he got from his BMW warranty (2yr). Although we were in Lauterbrunnen, the help line supplied an identical loan bike and took the other in for assessment within 2hrs of him calling them. In the end it couldn't be fixed in time for the return and it limped back to the UK with only 2 gears working. That said, they were happy for it to be repaired in Thun (Switzerland) and fly him back out there to pick it up..... Not surprisingly, riding the loan bike back to the UK was not an option....
Carole Nash's free European cover looked tempting, right up to the point I checked the small print on the two policies they came up with....
NOT covered for third party riding on other peoples bikes
NOT covered for any loss, if I forget to garage it at night between 10:00pm and 6:00am
So the question needs to be asked, whether the BMW extended warranty gives you a much better service from BMW dealers abroad or whether the other third party providers also deal with BMW dealers in the same way ?
Oh and to throw something else into the fire, does BMW Dealer servicing for the purposes of warranty validity mean a logical 12 months (6000 mile) service or is it the rip off 6 months or 6000 miles (whatever comes first).
