Bogging

Not sure if anyone else has had a similar problem.
But basically when rolling on at low revs the bike bogs down kind of like a lean stumble on a carb bike. So far its done it 4 times on friday (over 10 miles) and once yesterday on a 300+ mile trip round wales. Not sure if its because its been quite warm and the bike was getting hot in traffic. When the road opens up or the bike cools a bit it like normal.

Ran the first tank yesterday with some redex in it so not sure if that helped.

Anyone got any ideas?

No dealer trips preferably.

I think it's (almost) normal ... there's always been a low speed stalling issue with these bikes, I wonder if this is another manifestation.
TBH I'd have thought the supplying dealer would have ensured the most recent s/ware would have been loaded but it's always worth a check with them ...

I had a Power Commander fitted ages ago - never looked back, and never stalled (unless I've been ham-fisted) either...

I'm on a 650. Happened a few times to me this afternoon towards the end of a days riding. Never happened before but today was very hot and it may have been my throttle wrist getting tired. Twice when i stopped at the lights it just cut out too but no idiot lights came on???

Let it cool off and just went for a ride in the cooler night air and all is well. I'll chalk it up to the heat for now...

It's not like BMW have a caveat or anything ...

This MotorBiCycle must not be ridden in temperatures exceeding 27.5c ...??

It's a known issue, TBH the more owners that gripe about it to the dealers the better the chance of a revised fuelling map will be ...

ps - IMO, Redex or any other UCL/ fuel additive is not a great idea, all that will do is further weaken an already over-lean fuel/air mix and make the problem even worse...

I was around 70-90 mpg at 50-60mph in wales i normally average 45-55mpg. Think a performance filter and PC are going to be on the shopping list.

I approached the Pyrenees from Spain last year. well over 30 degrees, more like 36. No issues at all.

But it's not right that heat should make this problem worse ... doesn't bode well for your trans-saharan adventure does it?

If I've understood your first post properly it's a new bike .. have a word with your dealer - it should still be under a warranty of some kind and certainly if it's not running properly (which it's not if it stalls when hot) tyhen they should put it right. A PC won't compensate for a corrupt fuel map, indeed if you get one fitted with bad mapping it will be all over the place if it's re-mapped in the future ... BMW don't (as far as I know) give you an option to re-map or not, it's just done as part of the service... DAMHIKT

My bike is over 2 years old (no more warranty) and has over 20,000 miles on the clock and has never missed a beat until now which is why i suspect its not the mapping, hence the redex to give the jets a bit of a clean.

Also it didn't actually stall just bogged down

Have the plugs been changed?

My GSXR was running fine one day then like a bag'o'shite the next - poor low range running, but like the usual scalded cat over 7k (lol cos that's nearly the 80o's redline innit?). Them that were 'in the know' all said "It's yer plug caps mate .." so I bought a set from the Bay which made fek all difference ... that was another £50.00 invested in the parts bin ... Then I lashed out 20 notes on a new set of plugs ... sorted, it brought bike back to pulling like my 800 ...

Pair of plugs, accelerator module (lot cheaper than a PC) and a K&N that should sort it

Well its been ok since wales so going to leave it for now and work on it in winter. Was looking at the wunderlich version of the PC kinda like the idea of making adjustments with out a laptop

I wonder if you've just had a bad batch of fuel. I had something similar yesterday. Took a ride to Norwich with a mate on his 1200. Filled the bike up with 'Jet Super', and there was an almost immediate drop in performance. It almost feels as if you're 2up.

I'll be running this tank down to zero miles before filling up!

Mine does it now and then (13k miles). Crap throttle on these bikes! Although I do ride in central London every day never had issues with overheating.

I always had the same thing whilst down in Norfolk, fill it up with unleaded and it would sometimes stall on closed throttle, which was not nice turning into carparks etc.

Fresh tank of the Super variety and it ran superb again and the crispest throttle going
