I was working at home today and seized the opportunity to grab a quick spin on my two week old 1100 - the first ride after refitting the left hand cylinder head (to change a weeping head gasket).
And I came back with an oily left boot again
I'm not happy....
I didn't clean the bike before riding it, so I've spent the evening trying to convince myself that it was just residual oil on the fins etc flying off in the breeze - or perhaps the rocker gasket (just please not the head gasket again...). I changed the spark plug tunnel gasket when I did the head and I've ruled out the filler cap.
I feel like spitting my dummy out and ebaying it, but I don't like being beaten by machines and I love the bike. Does anyone know a way of finding out where the oil is coming from? - it's tricky to look under the head whilst riding....
On a lighter note, I washed it when I got back (to take my mind off the oil leak) and decided to solvol the wheels. Aren't they fun to clean - not!
- it's a long time since I've spent an hour on my knees cleaning spoked wheels and I've remembered why I thought anodised rims were such a good idea
I lost the will to live with half the back wheel done - I'll finish them this weekend.
