Boots Choice

Not off-road, just for the R90. I've got arthritis in my Left big toe joint (not that old but appear to have either worn it out or damaged it) so shifting can be a bit of a pain. I'd like some boots that aren't to bulky but that have a rigid upper so the load on the toe is reduced. Any suggestions before I start trawling round the shops?

Why dont you have a look at :
Daytona Road Star GTX Goretex around £329, Daytona Gator Goretex around £270 ...J&S among other have them -see web site & piccies.

They are IMHO comfy as hell ,not to bulky & would possibly offer you foot/toe enough of the protection your after
l also find warm when they need to be, but not too hot on warm days. Good Luck

I've worn a pair of Daytona Trans Open GTX for 5 years now (same pair)....just about the most comfortable boots I've ever worn, 100% waterproof & superbly made.

I proof them twice a year with Nikwax waterproofing cream wax (black) and they're as good as new again.

Ive got the Daytone Road Star GTX boots, they are quite stiff at the toe area so should be good for your needs. I paid £299 at Infinity motorcycles after batting my long eye lashes at the manager of the branch at the time. Mind you I've spent a small fortune in that branch since about august last year. By the way, She was a bit of alright

First thing I would do is get your toe sorted.
Had exactly the same problem for many years and last year had an op to fuse the joint with two screws.
Now no swelling and changing gear is not a problem.

I've got nice eyelashes too, but the baldness tends to detract from the overall effect of the batting.

I'm on with the specialist, but not entirely convinced about the fusing thing. Next appointment in a couple of weeks. Being indecisive with the upshifts because your toe is screwed up doesn't really work on an airhead.

Altberg Roadrunner 2 - has strongly constructed toe area and solid 'lever pad'...admittedly they are thicker than some other boots (I needed to slightly adjust the gear lever to assist changes) but they will protect your toe...worth a ride out to Richmond!

I bought some Klim Adrenaline boots from Adventure Spec which apparently started out as Snowboarding boots, but due to popular demand, they sell them as motorbike boots too. Really comfortable, really sturdy. Feels like a cross between moon boots and slippers.

+1 for Altberg.... Great boots .. Only get better with age .. And as there made to measure they will make any allowances you might want or need

If you visit the factory Altberg can make adjustments during making the boots for any foot irregularities, bought a new set of Altbergs last year to supplement my old Clubmans, I gave up on the Daytonas as they are superb boots but nowhere near as comfortable especially off the bike

Sorry, not been on for a while.

I got a pair of Sidi B2 boots. Not one that I intended looking at, but they have a very rigid toe area while not being a bulky boot and are Goretex lined. So far, so good, although I find the calf area a bit wide for my skinny legs.

I've also been back to the specialist who says the problem isn't arthritis related, but a high arch overloading the ball of the foot and causing the pain / numbness in my big toe. Supportive insoles have improved things no end as they spread the load across the foot.
