I have three sets of boots

Alpinestars SMX, my favourites but only any good on dry days. Bloody squeak annoys a lot of people!

HG, ankle boots, great for commuting and short journeys, now worn out.

Dainese winter boots, great for keeping the cold and wet out, virtually impossible to walk on wet pavements and very inflexible making gear changes clunky.

A number of people have recommended Daytonas, but they are pricey.

What do you lot recommend for year round, road only use ?

TCX Infinity GTX....:thumb2

I tried them at the NEC last year but my right lower leg is slightly swollen from an infection about five years ago not all boots are large enough and TCX is one of them. Shame because they get great reviews.

sidi adventure more expensive but so comfortable. They are like wearing slippers. Waterproof and ok to walk around in.

Daytona's, great boots. Expensive but worth it. Lots of calf adjustment too.

Daytona Road Star GTX. Brilliant, loads of adjustment Totally waterproof.
Only downsde is expensive to re-sole (£150 but they give a full refurb at the same time).

I'm spoilt with several pairs of boots; including a pair of Daytonas. They must be six? seven years old? and they're bullet proof.
My Alpinestar's and Sidi's look a bit classier, but the Daytonas, whilst they're pretty expensive, will soon become your favourite pair of slippers that'll last for years. :thumb2

I tried several different size pairs of Daytona Trans Open GTX in vain. They were all far too wide.

I concluded that Daytonas are made for clod-footed Orcs while TCX and other Italian boots are made for narrow-footed Elves.

Travel Star goretex.

20,000 miles in mine in less than 18 months through the weather we've been having that masquerades for a summer, plus winter riding.

Always comfortable, always warm, never too hot and never wet. And they still look great !

Daytonas for me too, I think mine are roadstar? got a grippy sole rather than smooth. I find them very comfortable ,never let water in ,good to walk in and have a good feel on any kind of bike.
Not a rufty tufty adventurer look, but that's the least of my worries.

I think mine were around 220 pounds when bought 4 0r 5 yrs ago.Well worth the money.

Gaerne Balance Classic. All the protection you'll ever need and more comfortable that your favourite slippers and it is waterproof :thumb. I've got it and I love it. It's a shame that Ride didn't test it, just goes to show that the magazine guys doesn't know best.

Another one for Altberg here. And, as said, very good for mountain walking/scrambling. :thumb2
