I've taken delivery of a pair of Altberg Clubman Roadster boots today from eBay size 9 1/2. Can't do up the zip - fully grown tosser now!

Swear by Altberg and have two pairs of walking boots and 2 pairs walking shoes which are great.

Anybody recommend a make of boot for high instep and calves like bullocks? I know Altberg do a factory fitting service but that's going to end up way too expensive.

Incidentally if you're looking for a pair of these, absolutely as new with unworn insoles, watch the for sale in the next day or two when I can get some pics up.:tears

Try Daytona boots.

I've just got a pair of Trans Open GoreTex lined boots from german eBay for about £260

Some swear by the TCX boots.

Best bet if you have the time is to hit the NEC show starting this weekend

I have huge calves and find that Daytona work, I have three pairs, one are ankle variants for summer but the others are Roadstar GTX which expand via velcro and Urban Master GTX which just seem roomy to start with

Another vote for Daytona, I have monster calves as well and have the slightly cheaper Goretex TCS Gator's but they have an adjustable calf and fit really well.

I'll show you mine if....you get the story

Had the same problem with Altbergs so went for Daytona Road Star GTX cracking fit, adjustable calves and very comfy.

I like the short Daytona Rainbow GTX boots too. Great for all day use and can be worn in the office under jeans. Look like regular work boots.

Worn under cordura trousers they are fine for all year use too as the Goretex makes then extremely waterproof.

Thanks guys, looks like I'll be wanting Daytonas for Christmas!

Just an afterthought; seem to remember buying a pair of BMW ankle boots in about 1991 to wear on my R100GS Bumblebee. BMW tank bag, Rukka Suit, BMW gloves. What a comfortable combo, all from John Clarke, Dundee. Thanks Fred Scammel. Still got your R60?

Hoiked all the way to the SW of Eire and back. Lot of rain sometimes but could walk easily and feet were dry. Very comfy too. Boots were a sort of fashionable slate blue in colour.

Seven of us did the trip and I think we should do it again.
What do you think boys?
I'd like the same warm, dry feet; what d'you reckon?:hide

There was a recent advert on this forum for Royal Marine/Special Forces High Gortex Pro boots, unfortunately too large for me. After searching through eBay, I found various so-called Army boots, so my question is - and I left the Army yonks ago so have lost touch - what are the best waterproof tall Army boots around, that would be good for motorcycling and walking?

Ring up Altberg, they do a couple of different calf sizes as standard, my first pair were bought from the factory and when I tried them on I was wearing baggy combats and they seemed okay . When I put leathers on the leg size was huge, rang them up and they said send them back and they exchanged them no problems.

They keep a stock of common sizes , I have Daytona GTX boots and find them a bit narrow.
