Hi, I'm considering getting the BOS full system for an '07 R1200GS. Has anyone got this fitted? What have your experiences been so far (in terms of sound, performance and fuel economy). Is there much difference between the standard kit and the GTS silencer? (apart from the extra £40 for the latter!)

Sorry if this has been covered extensively in the past. I'm having real trouble searching for BOS because the forum doesn't like the fact it's only 3 letters long... Maybe I can fool it by doing something like "BOS*" ?

Excellent quality of fit & finish, not too noisy with the restrictor fitted, with noticable ( seat of the pants) increase in performance. In all, highly recommended....:thumb

Thanks. I should perhaps point out that I'm looking to achieve 4 things:

  • Add a bit of "character" to the exhaust note (without pissing off my very nice neighbours!)
  • Smooth out the flat spot in the torque curve around 5500 RPM
  • Ensure it still allows me to fit the TouraTech Zega ali panniers at some point in the future
  • Not harm fuel economy, or have the engine burn too lean

Does anyone know if the BOS full system does all of the above? Also, just curious to know if it's technially "road legal". I.e. does the removal of the catalytic converter mean it'll fail an MoT, or the sound attract the attention of the boys in blue? Not wanting either for obvious reasons...

One of the lads I ride with ( KevinC) has one fitted.

It has a very nice deep tone and sounds great when he wellies it. Itr sort of has a deep bellow and is loudish without being at all offensive and off the throttle or on a constant throttle its just as quiet as standard.

He's pleased with his and he believes it performs very well but I couldnt answer the techincal queries that you have.

I'm also looking for a good weight saving, given that I finally decided to go for the GS (with wire wheels) over the GSA, and doing what I can to shed a few KGs and improve off-road handling.

It looks like the BOS full system saves you around 4KG over the standard kit.

And I'll cut down on the cooked breakfasts to save the rest... :augie

I fitted the s/steel version to my 04 1200GS a few weeks ago. The exhaust note is louder, but definitely not offensive (I've got an Aprilia with RSC carbon cans for truly ground-shaking noise :D), and there is extra woommf in the mid-range. The engine spins up just that bit quicker, so overtakes feel a bit snappier. It pops and burbles a bit on the overrun now. There is a removable baffle for extra noise but I haven't experimented by taking this out....yet.

Not sure about the fuel economy but if there is a difference it must be marginal. I've got the BM Vario panniers and they fit fine with the BOS system. In fact the BOS is slimmer than the standard BM can. No problems with heat from the outlet melting my number plate, which seems to happen with some systems.

Fit was OK - it took a bit of fiddling to get everything lined up, and some of the adjustments are at the limit of their range in order to get the centre stand stop to hit correctly on the special bracket. Finish on the can is very good. The headers have gone blue/brown, in a patchy way. Not especially pretty, but it doesn't bother me.

I don't think the bike MOT requires a working catalytic converter, so this shouldn't be an issue. Fowlers (the supplier of my system) said that it complies with the relevant EU noise regs. so there shouldn't be a problem at MOT time.

Given your list of 4 things that you want to achieve with a new zorst, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the BOS :thumb

I'm just back from 'testing' my new BOS carbon end can and am very pleased with it. Sounds deeper and ritcher but not offensive, seems to give a bit more go ( but hard to tell)and looks the biz.
It is a good bit smaller than the standard can so there is now abit of a gap between the pannier and the can. BWTF?

I'm very happy with it- the full system should be the bollocks.

Fitted BOS full system 3 months ago and it has increased the pleasure I get from the bike no end. In that time I have covered about 4,000 miles with no problems. The fit was perfect. Had a service at main dealers including plug change, and old plugs were a good sandy colour:thumb. All in all highly recommended.

I agree with GSdreamer. It is a great system, the noise level is not intrusive, and does have a good sound when wound on. I fitted the full sytem which helped to smooooth out the 4-5K rpm power fluctuations.

If anything it seems to me that I am getting more miles per gallon too, up from around 50 to 54mpg.

They definitely fit the Vario panniers, I spent 5 days cruising around Normandy and Brittainy and had no over heating problems with them.

The only drawback I can see is the fit with Hepco&Becker engine bars: The O2 sensors are just touching the bars, not ideal but after some 6,000 miles there has not been any apparent problem with that.
