Boxer cup won't start....

Oh no ya don't!

Behave yerself and enlighten the masses to what bit of starter failed so we can add it to the knowledge herein! :aidan:aidan:aidan

Sorry to end it so short :augie Basically, we took it off the bike, connected it to a battery, lots of sparks and no movement. Unfortunately he had to go out to collect his kids from a party, so he hadn't got time to take it apart :blast I'll let you know what he does next :thumb

EVIL, I tells ya ...

... well, it was a great bike but mine just happened to be the runt of the litter and had all sorts of problems! All sorted out by BMW in the end but it was grief while it was going on! I loved riding it but it is / was a bit impractical for Hong Kong during the rush hour(s) so I went back to the GS.

UK / US / Europe would be a much better place for it ... sigh ...

(oh, mine was a 2003 model, the original blue and white RM one).

Ah Ha ~ Magnets Fell Off! The usual pain in the ass!

IF you get them out in one bit and DON'T turn them around either rotate or move from original position it is possible with a good heat resistant epoxy to glue them back in until a replacement is sourced.

I should add that the starter on my GS had similar problems. I removed it and took it to the sole BMW agent here in Hong Kong .. they said "Leave it here and we'll check it out" ... the next day they called back and I went back to see them, to be told " ... erm, yes, that sometimes happens ... here's a new one ... "! It's been mentioned in some other threads and seems quite a problem.

I was VERY surprised to get another one gratis from the dealer.

That's lucky.... in an unlucky kind of way :thumb

I bought new Honda Blackbird a couple of years ago, six weeks old and had to have a complete new wiring loom:(. Just goes to show anything can happen and to anything :mmmm :thumb2

I had exactly same problem with the Valeo starter on my '03 1150 GSA -eventully got a new starter from MotoWorks, Sleaford- cost me damn near £180-no exchange !!
Works fine now though. Don't expect that Balderstones or Sawbridge would have given me a gratis starter though..maybe Sleazy Jet to Hong Kong might almost have been cheaper !!!
