hi
seems to be if you ride a gs in the winter the brakes seem to get sticky with crud ,today going to work a funny burning smell was going up my nose , so when i stopped smoke was coming out the front disc area, it was almost red hot, i prized the caliper away from the disc, went to work on the back brake, at work took the pads out inspected the pistons ,looked black ,moved the pistons out with great care, looked all shiny, bloody salt again ,worked them in and out with some gt 85, hope thats ok, seems that the top piston is the problem, bought a tooth brush and gave a clean , the wheel spins ok now, can,t be doing this every few weeks , any body got any info on how to keep the pistons dirt free and what can be used for a lube on the pistons , oil rots the seals, that is right isn't it, can't be good keep taking the calipers off and on. thanks

Try brake cleaner!

You can get it in aerosol cans or my preference, in 4 litre container then use in a pump spray. Most decent motoring suppliers.

What they said ^^

I found that regularly squirting brake cleaner all over the place was equally effective as stripping everything down each time they get sticky. Although it's worth giving the retaining bolts a good scrub and a coating of copper slip.

Pluck.

Would any of you tolerate this if it was a car?

If you think the GS suffers, try riding a Yamaha with the blue R1/R6/Fazer/Thundercat style sumitomo front calipers through winter. You'll soon become an expert at brake cleaning. :D
