Arrrgh the thread was closed before I could .... yanno!

Anyone else in the position of not having the right TORX socket could try a 10mm 12pt socket - it will fit! An 8mm 12pt will fit the handlebar clamp bolts but you'll be lucky finding a 12pt socket - I use a small ring spanner...

In fact, you can use a 12pt socket on most male torx fittings - as long as it's not too sloppy you'll be ok...

I decided to spend a few bob on the torx sockets at Halfrauds... was aware that I could get away with using the 12pt sockets but would probably cheese grate the bolt :D

Still, a good way of saving a bit of space if you're on the road, only take what you need etc.

Thanks Greggers :beerjug:

I tried a 12mm and it started to round off the bold head
Tried to pursuade a 10mm on and it wouldn't purchase.

Deciding that the forks could be expensive, i brought the E12 and will will try again tonight.

I plan another visit to ToolMaster (local nut&bolt emporium) tomorrow to see if i can swap the bolts for something more consistent.

While at it, i've also adjusted the forks to the 5mm mark, so with a new tyre and changed forks, i'm going to be all over the place!

Oooops ... 12mm will do that - waaay too big!

The 10mm should have done the trick, but the 12mm has taken the corners off the bolthead now which doesn't give the 10mm anything to grab onto... Once you've got the right Torx socket, you'll probably have to whack it on to the bolt head to 're-form' it a little... Don't be shy here, as the head is already compromised, you can't really afford any more deformation, so be sure to use a good hammer to tap it on (make sure it's going the right way before committing yourself fully with a fairground bell-ringer!) .

Once it's off you might consider replacing it with an allen-bolt ...

Yep - 12 too big, 11 too small, 10 no way. :blast

Luckily, i'm way to cautious to have gone that far, so a tap on the end of the socket to 'realign' the edges, the E12 Torx/star socket went on and off came the bolt. :bounce1

I am going to look for some black Torx bolts which would look good :ymca

Get a new Anakee 2 fitted tomorrow and job done.

Oh bollocks.. I had to go and check ...

Landy - unless we have very different torx heads, a 12mm will just spin over the bolthead. A 10mm definitely fits mine - even a hex (6pt) and - shock of shocks - a 3/8ths AF socket fits proper snug!

Now - I'm only advocating this as a 'get-out-of-jail-free' card and would - of course :augie - always use the correctly designated BMW approved tool whenever possible and if available...

I have not yet seen NOS tanks fitted to a GS, Hmmmm :beerjug: :thumb

A couple of weeks ago, one of the local kids saw me with the bike and a 3l cylinder and asked if it was NOS. I hadn't considered it until then. If i paint the cylinder with BMW colours, do you think they'll still respect the warranty? :nenau

Do you think that 20l at 232bar will be enough?
- if i mount twin 10's on the exhaust side and my twin 12's on the other it'll be a balanced system.
