Brake Caliper floating pin lube question

I've just had to replace my rear brake caliper @ 28,000 miles, as one of the 'floating' pins had corroded and seized, although the rubber gaiter was in good condition .

The new caliper came with a very light coating of thin oil, what is the considered opinion on the best lube option for these pins?

I'm assuming a regular application of high temperature grease may be a solution

As long as it is checked regally then copper slip will do ,or even chain lube.
As long as corrosion is not allowed to set in then it will be fine.

+1 for the copper grease. I got mine from halfords a while ago, much better than the shite from comma. Its more like a paste than a grease so won't go anywhere it shouldn't. I almost filled the drilling in the caliper with the stuff so that when you put the two bits back together the paste fills the rubber gaiter too which gives another layer of protection to the sliding pins. Just be sure not to get it anywhere it doesn't need to be!

Use a bit on the pad pins too - it helps getting them out.. whileyou've got greasy fingers, use it sparingly on the backs of the pads to stop brake squeal, and a little on the
'Toe' of the pads will help prevent them seizing or sticking in the caliper.

Pads and sliders

Rubber gaiter sliding pins should be lubed with something with that doesn't degrade the rubber.

I use Silkolene Pro RG2 grease on these, and coppa slip on the pad retaining pin and a light smear on the pad backing. I fact they are the only two places I use coppa slip and that is because of the heat issues.
Everything else uses Pro RG2. £7 for a tub which lasts ages.

I agree with you there, but I have to say that I've been using Copaslip or variants for years (quite literally in some applications) and have never seen it degrade any rubber component...

YMMV of course ...

I went with marcusfordus recommendation, on the lube!
New caliper now fitted with the Silkolene Pro RG2 on the pin & in the drillings, as per Greggers advice.
