I'm in the process of fitting new front discs to my GS and there are some very thin washers which don't look like they should be there...!
They are between the disc and the mounting point on the wheel.

The outside is okay with just the mounting stud, wavy washer and bobbin.

Basically I need to know if there should be a washer between the disc and the wheel? Thanks.

Have the mounting lugs on the hub worn 'shoulders' where the disc has gone back towards the hub and someone has fitted washers to keep the disc on the bobbins?

Even if the shoulders aren't worn I'd leave then there to prevent any wear. How thick are the washers and do they look like they're stainless?

Thanks for the replies chaps. have read Smudgers post- very useful.

The washers are stainless and similar thickness to the BMW ones but are are M12, not M8 so I reckon they would move around on the bobbin. Because they aren't the right ones and don't necessarily have to be there I've left them out for now and will see how it goes, whether the discs rattle or not etc etc.
Sun shining, roads dry, finished work early so a test ride should be in order....but can't get the bike out cos wife's car in the way and she's at work until 330.:blast

Your right, whoever fitted the 12mm washers did not understand the problem or solution properly and you are right to remove them - BUT - you should now order the correct 8mm washers from either Motorworks or your local BMW dealer and fit them UNDER the bobbins.
