I bought my Y2k 1150GS last August from a local dealer who repleced the warped OE discs under warranty last October. 3,000 niles later the spring washers have disintigrated and the discs have warped again.

I've had concerns over these discs as they rust at the merest hint of moisture with the pads binding very quickly. Am I better to pay the extra £50 for BMW discs or go for EBC. The present ones are from Motorwerks or someplace.

I'm begining to think that this GS was a poor purchase. Then again I am trying to justify a trade up to a 1200GS :D

Go back to the dealer and ask him to replace them again under warranty. New BMW parts come with a 12 month warranty (unless things have changed very recently).

Mike:)

The bike was not bought from a BMW dealer, however they are replacing the discs under warranty (again). Should I insist on BMW discs or are EBC just as good? BMW ones are £25 each more expensive.

I'llbe fittin them myself as I do not trust these grease monkeys to get it right. The BMW 'technicians' here in Glasgow didn't notice a warped rear disc when they changed the pads and also tought that my pistons were "holed" when it was just the plastic covers that were worn.

I'd fit OE discs. If your dealer is returning the old ones to a BMW dealer for replacement, you won't have the option anyway.

As someone who owns a bike with a continuing history of disc warping (I lose count, but I think I'm on my 9th set of front discs in 87k miles), I'd stick with the OE, which BMW will stand by (I've not bought any discs yet), rather than an aftermarket item which they'll wash their hands of...

Mike:)

DO NOT buy EBC discs; they are more trouble than the £50 extra for genuine bits. Mate of mine has a bike shop and will no longer fit EBC because of repeated problems with distortion. Pile of pants. :(

You see, this is why I never post on forums like this. Its the equivication and hedging of bets that puts me off. LRR, get off the damn fence and say what you really mean. Bottling it up will cause you problems in the long run, let it out, Man, you are apent up ball of repression! :D :beerjug:

EBC Brake discs

EBC discs seem to chew through OE bobins though. EBC say they should be fitted using them? I have not had any distortion problems though.

I had EBC full floating discs on a Honda Bros I commuted on. I used to get about 12k before they were rattling on the bobbins. It is teh carrier and teh bobbins that wear, not just th bobbins. EBC rebuilt them once for free. But, 12k later I had to buy a new one.

I never got round to tasting them, which is a shame as I always wondered if it was cheese or chocolate EBC made them out of?:D
