I know someone with a "Brake failure" light flashing rapidly. No faults currently showing on Gs-911
2005 GS

It has ABS, not sure what type.
Any tips to find cause?

I think so. (I have not ridden it)
I will run some more tests soon.. I know the front brake switch has been replaced in the hope that was the issue.
Thanks

It’ll have the servo/abs module....check everything is working, especially the rear light and brake light, check both filaments are working and it hasn’t gone into safety mode of both using the same filament due to the other one blowing

Thanks Steptoe.
Good tip.

I have found that the rear light is a LED type thing, more than likely a cheap aftermarket one. They seem to be working as they should. The owner seems convinced that the warning light was not flashing when he got the bike but maybe not familiar with all the warning lights yet.
I have ran another test with a GS911 and no faults logged at all (both abs sensors tested too)

Just a thought,

Has he / you tried taking for a short spin to see if the systems checks and resets itself?

worth a shot

Just an outside thought, but if the owner is new to the bike, do they realise the brake fault triangle flashes for a period at start up - yes, it should go out once in the move. Sorry if that's an obvious one. Just thinking out aloud!

I can't remember the actual sequence and when it actually goes out, I've glazed over it by now.

From the riders manual:

Quote:
Self-diagnosis not completed
ABS warning light flashes.
The ABS function is not
available, because selfdiagnosis
did not complete. The
motorcycle has to move forward
a few metres for the wheel
sensors to be tested.
Pull away slowly. Bear in mind
that the ABS function is not
available until self-diagnosis has
completed.

There is no mentioning of the brakes, and any fault in the system will show a steady light.

This leaves us with speedsensor front and rear. What puzzles me though is that a faulty sensor will throw a fault code...

I end up with the same question already asked by @Slipperyeel

Replacement LED lamps can throw up strange faults. I would wire in an original bulb until you've resolved the fault. Clean all earth connections. Disconnect the battery for 5 mins.
Does the ABS actually work ?

I am not sure if it actually works. I can't ask the owner to go out and do, potentially dangerous, tests.
As far as I recall from the manual... The light should flash slow until the self check is complete. This is flashing rapidly from key on.
I believe he is going to get an original light fitting to test.
Also understand that if it was a light failure, it would show LAMPF on the digital display??
Thanks for all the replies.

The problem will most likely be the LED tail light. Unless it has a resistor it’ll act funny with the warning lights. You won’t get a LampF or lampr warning. If you’d have said it has an LED rear light in the original post you’d have been told what the likely problem was within 5 minutes :D

Thank you for your tip. It is not my bike so I didn't even think about it until your previous post about the bulbs.
I don't even know if it is a good/safe led light board. Could be a cheap ebay job.
Appreciate your help and replies.
