Gs 1200 hi guys I have red brake failure light appeared on my dash gave it a wee run and it's still on any ideas.... Thanks:nenau

Had mine come on last week, from looking through the owners book would appear to be ABS light, have checked my brakes and sure enough ABS isn't working, on way to work today speedo also stopped working and from searching on this site would appear that the ABS pump may have failed.
I have cleaned brakes and fitted new pads etc but no joy so will have to get it booked in to local BMW dealer to have it plugged into diagnostics.
Sorry cant be of more help.

If that's the round sensors which are screwed into the brake calliper facing the disc I cleaned them and they look ok but still showing the fault light.

Check the tail light bulb housing etc for corrosion. Also check the bulb hasn't blown 1 of it's filaments.

If the tail filament blows the brake filament will illuminate at reduced power, making it look like the back light is okay.

The housing is also prone to corrosion.

Mine was the rear wheel speed sensor. Loss of brake pressure and indicators that stayed on all the time were another sign.

I've also got the red light of death on: ABS Fault! but I find a quick tap with a metallic instrument (not a hammer) on the ABS Motor and Hey presto red light go's out, all well for a short time may be 100 miles or might just last 100yds brushes in the ABS motor F----d . Not a cure but indicates where to fault is. hope that helps.

That would just trigger the lamp failure warning, not the brake failure warning, no?

What year if bike ? It's important, as the remedy below only works on bikes without the pre-2007/8 bikes servo.

Permanent fix is to take the brushes out of the motor and file down the high points that's causing them to stick. ;)

    It's 57 plate.......more advise welcome,anybody stripped abs motor to get to bushes?:thumb

Its an electronic alarm - only as clever as the bloke who programmed it.

Eh?? I was trying to point out that they're two separate lights - the lamp failure warning is different to the brake failure warning. Isn't it? Or does your cryptic comment mean summat else?
