sorry.
i realise this has been done to death (have checked the excellent thread at http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184464) but i think ive checked all the obvious and im still stuck-any ideas?
2006 r1200gsa servo-ABS; 75000 miles+++
brake failure warning at 4hz on startup-was intermittent and sorted itself whilst riding-now permanent. residual braking only. brake light permanently on. bike self-checks not completing, cant hear the servo kicking in at all on startup or when brake levers are activated
1) no, its not the handguard fouling the lever, nor is it my big feet permanently resting on the rear...and no, i am not pulling the brakes until all of the startup procedures have been completed
2) yes the front microswitch was knackered so i replaced it with a brand spanking new one which now works like a dream; rear microswitch doesnt seem to have a problem; not sure about "brake light switch"-what is this and where is it and could it cause this problem?
3) rear tail bulb replaced, contacts cleaned etc etc and yes rear bulb is in the right way and contacts undamaged
4) all brake fluids' in all 4 reservoirs levels checked and are fine
5) brake pads ok and ABS sensor does not seem fouled by lots of gunk
6) battery good
7) wiring/loom intermittent electrical faults?! hmmmm...mebbe-although it looks in ok condition-what multimeter tests could i do?
8) speedo working fine
9) neither brake seems engaged on its own, no binding to speak of
10) calipers and pistons clean and in good nick and seem to move freely
given ive checked and done all of the above, could this be anything other than the @*!*ing ABS pump which costs a bloody fortune?! advice on more things to check please!!
anyone willing to take the time and effort to talk a newbie through this tired old issue through to complete resolution would win my ever-lasting respect, and at least a pint if local
failing that, anyone who could just tell me how to get the effing brake light working again, even if only with residual braking, so i can relax in heavy traffic without the fear of some big lorry running into the back of me and spoiling my day would do.....
cheers,
mom.
ps i like the servo abs brakes (when they work) so would rather keep them if at all possible
