Brake Failure

Hi folks,
took my 2011 1200 GSA Twincam out this morning and the brake failure light was flashing. Didn't go off after a few meters but stays on. Lost ABS at back wheel at one point then came back. Not sure about front. Braked hard on the back to test it and it cut in but stalled which may or may not be connected. there is no ABS warning light but the ASC is sometimes flashing and the words "Brake Failure are flashing red on the top display.
Disconnected the battery and read the manual in case I've pressed something by mistake. No new tyres fitted or stones jammed in the abs ring etc.
Any advice would be welcome before I have to go to the dealer.

Ok, a wee bit of post searching leads me to believe it may be a faulty speed sensore, hence the speedometer not working. I assume this would be the front sensor if the speedometer is in operative. This would mean it wouldn't finish its diagnostics and would give a failure light. Err I think.
Any ideas ?

I think it'll be the rear sensor for the speedo.
 
Yes indeed. It will be rear.
I'll try pushing the connection under the seat in. It might be loose. If not then I'll try a new sensor. Re doing the cable ties looks like the hardest bit.
 
It's the rear speed sensor. Fits on the inside of the rear hub, trickiest bit is feeding the thing into place once you have the wheel off. I paid Steptoe to do it, coz he has a ramp.
 
You can disconnect front speed sensor to disable ABS and TC but speedo still works. As your speedo is out, seems like rear speed sensor to me.
 
Bizarrely while I had the read speed sensor disconnected as the FD was in for repair after about 10 minutes of driving the speedo would start working again! Must have been using the front wheel sensor as the rear wasn't even plugged in!

But yes your rear sensor isn't working. Someone else had something similar and it was simply a disconnected plug...
 
Thank you everyone for your replies. I will check the connections and give the sensor a clean as I'm going to change the FD oil. If it still isn't working I'll replace the sensor.

Er,
Can someone show me a picture of where the rear sensor connector actually is under the seat. Can't bloody identify it. New contact lenses aren't helping.

How can you be riding if your FD is in for repair? Confused....
 
rear speed sensor

Any takers for the position of the rear sensor connection? I think it might be just in front of the rear shock mount under the riders seat but not 100% sure.

Its in that area, I had the same issue and had to replace the sensor and from memory the cable connector was located on the upper cross member adjacent to the upper rear shock mount.
 
Follow the wire along the palaver top arm and up under the seat. TBH its just as easy to remove rear wheel and take out the sensor to check for metal bits.
